ALBANY — The UAlbany women’s basketball program announced its incoming recruiting class Wednesday.

The class consists of four players, including former Section II standouts Lilly Phillips of Cambridge High School and Abby Ray of Saratoga Springs High School.

Joining Phillips and Ray are Koi Sims and Freja Werth. Sims is a 6-foot-0 forward from Maryland who was a 2021 McDonald’s All-American nominee, while Werth is a 6-foot-1 forward from Sweden. Werth most recently played for RIG Lulea in the top women’s league in Sweden, and has played on Swedish national teams.

A 5-foot-11 guard, Phillips was also a McDonald’s All-American nominee last season. Phillips scored more than 1,000 points in her career, and helped lead Cambridge to a Class C state championship as a sophomore. The state championships in Phillips’ junior and senior seasons were not held because of restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Ray was a second-team selection last season in the Suburban Council. A 5-foot-8 guard, Ray helped lead Saratoga Springs to the Suburban Council championship game this past season.

UAlbany finished 7-11 last season. Head coach Colleen Mullen’s program made it to the America East semifinals.
