High schools: Broadalbin-Perth baseball earns 1-0 win

A dominant performance from Mike Magliocca led the Broadalbin-Perth baseball team to a 1-0 win Friday against Greenville in the Section II Class B quarterfinals.

Magliocca struck out 10 batters in the shutout. He allowed four hits and one walk for the second-seeded Patriots.

For No. 7 Greenville, Isaiah Edmonds also delivered a strong pitching performance. Edmonds allowed one unearned run in six innings, and struck out five.

Luke Tambasco scored the game’s lone run in the second inning.

Broadalbin-Perth will play No. 6 Schalmont in Saturday’s semifinals.

BILKA LEADS CBA

Ryan Bilka had two hits and two RBIs in a 5-3 win for CBA against Guilderland in a Section II Class AA baseball quarterfinal game.

Bilka also earned the save. He started pitching with one out and the tying run on base in the seventh inning, and struck out two batters — on six pitches — to close out the game.

CJ Kuentzel earned the win. He struck out five batters and allowed two runs in five innings.

Top-seeded CBA will play No. 4 Colonie in Saturday’s semifinals.

SCOTIA-GLENVILLE WINS SEMIFINAL
Morgan Nichter and Maya Westbrook helped lead the Scotia-Glenville girls’ lacrosse team to an 11-9 upset win against Glens Falls in the Section II Class C semifinals.

Nichter registered six goals and two assists, and Westbrook made a dozen saves in the third-seeded team’s win against the second-seeded squad.

Olivia Geniti had two goals and two assists, and Abby Esperti had two goals for Scotia-Glenville.

Phoebe Fox had six goals and an assist for Glens Falls.

Scotia-Glenville will play top-seeded Averill Park in Tuesday’s championship game. Averill Park won 12-7 against South Glens Falls in its semifinal. Julia Gelder had three goals and four assists in the victory, while Julia Foster had three goals and two assists. Jess Betts had three goals for South Glens Falls.

BALLSTON SPA ROLLS
In the Section II Class B boys’ lacrosse semifinals, second-seeded Ballston Spa won 20-6 against third-seeded Queensbury. Erik Gottmann and Owen Walsh each had four goals and an assist in the win, while teammate Antonio Rossetti had three goals and two assists. Also scoring three goals in the victory were Geno DeRubertis and John Serina. For Queensbury, Connor White scored all six goals. Ballston Spa will play top-seeded Burnt Hills in Tuesday’s championship game.

MESICK LEADS HOLY NAMES
Lauren Mesick had four goals and two assists in Holy Names’ 14-8 Section II Class D girls’ lacrosse semifinal win against Johnstown. Anna Nichols contributed four goals for Holy Names, while Taryn Ringer led Johnstown with four scores and Emily Fleming added three. Holy Names will play Schuylerville, which won 15-6 against Cohoes, in next week’s championship game.
