Rear seatbelt law is a step to tyranny

Should the driver of a car be held responsible for an adult in the back seat who is not wearing his seatbelt?
This new law is clearly unconstitutional, an invasion of privacy and an unreasonable search.
It will lead to trouble for both the citizen and the police who will be exposing themselves to confrontations.
We must stop this slide toward dictatorship and tyranny.
Daniel Singer

Litz will continue to uphold law as judge

The current Rotterdam town law prohibits political signs being put up before Sept. 1.
Unfortunately, Judge Ken Litz’s opponent in this year’s Democratic primary apparently feels he is above the law.
He has put up political signs before the Sept. 1 date.
A judge, above all people, is expected to follow and obey the law.
For 32 years Ken Litz has been our Rotterdam town judge. For 24 of those years, he was endorsed by the town Democratic Party.
Ken Litz not only applies the law, he obeys the law.
As a lifelong Democrat, I am asking you to vote for Judge Ken Litz in the Democratic primary on June 22.
Bob Godlewski

Republicans have short memories

Since being taken over by Donald Trump, it appears that being a “good” Republican means that you must be able to forget everything that has happened to our country over the past four years.
You must forget that Trump promised to abolish the ACA (Obamacare) with something big and incredible.
We are still waiting for that, just like we’re still waiting for Mexico to reimburse American taxpayers for that “big, beautiful” wall on our southern border.
You also have to be able to forget how nearly 600,000 Americans have died from a disease that Trump told us would simply disappear in a few weeks and that he never offered a single word of condolences to the covid victims or their families.
Most importantly, as good Republicans, you have to completely deny the events at our nation’s capital on Jan. 6 when your leader sent an angry, armed mob to the place where you work to kill you and hang his own vice president, all because he couldn’t accept that he lost an open and fair election by over 7 million votes.
You can pretend that you didn’t see the mob take down the flag flying over the Capitol and hoist a Trump 2020 banner in its place.
Explain that to our veterans and Capitol Police.
Mainly, just completely forget the oath of office that you took where you pledged allegiance to the United States and its Constitution and keep on pledging your loyalty to the wannabe dictator that you helped create.

John Angilletta So when Obama was president lots of people were arrested you can look at the mug shots and they’re wearing obama shirts was Obama responsible for them committing those crimes? See it takes common sense in this world today and most Democrats just don’t have it.

Zachary–Yes, democrats (and John McCain) voted down a terrible health care plan that would throw millions OFF healthcare–just kill the ACA with a million cuts instead of improving it. He had no better plan.
The border is and always will be a problem, but especially now with our country and the world shut down for over a year…plus all the problems in Central America. Many are repeatedly sent away, so the number is higher.

How did 45 have nothing to do with the Insurrection when it was HIM that continually lied about losing, told them to come, said it would be “wild,” pointed them toward the Capitol and said he would be with them, and if you aren’t “strong” you’re going to lose your country?! If he didn’t do any of those things, it WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED! How do you explain how many HOURS it took for him to do something? How do you explain McCarthy begging for help and him responding “I guess they (insurrectionists) care more about the election than you do.” How do you explain McCarthy, McConnell and others BLAMING him that night…only to get back on their knees and beg forgiveness kissing his ring? 45 encouraged violence throughout his presidency, and backed and fueled domestic terrorists. The enemy is within, so please…wake up!

I understand why so many of you don’t want to believe that our election was not legitimate. I don’t want to believe it either. But the facts are the facts. Our elections have not been fair and square for years. In 2018, 2016, 2014 and so on. Not to mention so many local and state elections.

But don’t take my word for it. It a couple of weeks the proof will be shown to all. Although, you who rely on the MSM and big tech may not see or hear about it.

“the facts are the facts”

The word “fact” should never be spoken by the blind trumpster loyalists because obviously they have no clue as to understanding the word also represents “truth”. No such thing as “alternative facts”.

John–In a couple weeks, in a couple weeks…how many times have we heard that?! The facts show that this was a clean election–especially after the trouble we had in 2016 with interference. Whoever you are listening to are catering to the Insurrectionist President, so please find some other sources.

Seems like every major newspaper and a non-trivial number of Republicans in Arizona has expressed their embarrassment at what’s happening in Maricopa County. To think they will try to take this sh_, I mean, roadshow to other safe (meaning red) states is another level absurdity. And Republicans like yourself seem to have a firm lock on the absurd.

None, zero, nunca, никто of whatever they think they found will be allowed in any court.

But keep funding them, that’s what they need. You’re all like a grand mash-up of Green Acres and Hee Haw.

Daniel Singer–Dictatorship? Tyranny?
-30% of highway deaths in New York involved passengers who did not wear a seat belt.
-According to NHTSA 2017, of the 37,133 people killed in motor vehicle crashes- 47% were NOT wearing a seatbelt
-According to NHTSA 2017, an estimated 14,955 lives were saved by seat belts.

When the original seat belt law went into effect in 1985, I decided to put my belt on simply because it was the law. 20 minutes later, I was in a horrible crash, so I’m glad I’m still alive!

Bill Nechamen

RE Daniel Singer’s letter: for years I have not put my car into drive until ALL passengers were buckled. With elderly passengers, that has sometimes meant helping them fasten their seatbelts. Seat belts save lives. Do you also have problems with speeding laws, with laws against texting while driving, with drunk driving laws? Driving a car is dangerous. As my father used to say when handing over the keys “these are the keys to a loaded weapon.” Laws to make driving safer are as far from tyranny as you can get. It is public safety and common sense.

If it weren’t for the laws you just mentioned as well as many others, it would be a situation of many more republicans becoming the recipients of the “Darwin awards.”

As Cynthya stated, you can’t fix stupid. And yes,“common sense” is lacking.

Too bad we can’t muster the common sense to treat firearms as seriously. Maybe with a quickly declining NRA that can be better addressed.

Martha Bencic

I still can’t believe how many of you continue to let deluded people hijack what could be decent comment threads here.

re: Daniel Singer.
Driving is a privilege, not a right. To drive you must also pay some form of liability insurance as well. We as a community all pay into that same pool of funds for liability insurance, Medicare, etc. If you want the freedom to drive without a seatbelt, ride a cycle without a helmet, then I want to be able to opt out on helping to pay for your medical bills, lifelong care, loss of income, etc., should you end up disabled for life, where it could have been prevented or mitigated by taking these simple safety measures. That’s the real Tyranny here. Society is forced to pay for others’ misfortunes and stupidity because these individuals want all their ‘freedoms’ without the responsibility that comes with them.

Zachary–lol!…all we have to do is see faux entertainment and we know it’s not true–or twisted. That sure explains your backward thinking, though!

The web is the most trusted news medium (over TV and print combined), and Fox News is the most trusted TV news source, according to results from a new Zogby poll commissioned by the Independent Film Channel.

Fox ruled with 39.3 percent of those polled beating out CNN at 16 percent and MSNBC at 15 percent.

Trump’s new favorite poll inflates his approval rating by about 10 points

Zogby, which Trump has repeatedly touted this week, was once described as “the worst pollster in the world.”

Amid signs that the economy is slowing, reputable polls show President Donald Trump’s approval rating sagging. Trump responded this week by repeatedly trumpeting a disreputable Zogby poll that pegs his approval rating at 51 percent.

Trump, who this week referred to himself as “the chosen one,” seems constitutionally unable to accept the fact he isn’t as popular as he believes himself to be. And so his go-to move in times like this is to lash out at the media and cherry-pick data that paints himself in the most favorable light.

“This despite the Fake News and Polls!” Trump tweeted on Friday morning, alluding to the Zogby number on Twitter for the second time this week.

Zogby, however, is not a reliable pollster. That’s because the firm, which skews to the right and which FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver once described as the “worst pollster in the world,” isn’t transparent about its methodology.

This problem is apparent in the polling Trump has repeatedly touted this week. The “Zogby Analytics Poll Methodology” page merely notes that Zogby “conducted an online survey of 897 likely voters in the US,” but doesn’t detail how the sample was chosen. And given how out of step its findings about Trump’s approval rating are with other polls, it appears Zogby’s sample contains more Trump supporters than a firm would find in one that’s truly representative of the electorate.

“Zogby Analytics has a track record of remarkably inaccurate preelection polls,” Stanford University professor Jon Krosnick told the Atlantic when Trump was touting Zogby polls in October 2015, noting that the shabby performance was a result of nonrandom sampling.

It’s worth taking a look at the Zogby Analytics website. There on the front page, scroll down to the “Biden Approval” section and gaze for a minute at their graphic for all you need to know; that supports Nate Silver’s analysis.
You’ll see a bar graph that shows 33% Strongly approve and another that shows 25% Strongly disapprove. But how odd that the bar for Strongly disapprove is slightly longer the Strongly approve. Here on Earth 33% is bigger than 25% so the bars showed reflect that.
They don’t and I don’t believe that’s an accident.

The only thing you can learn from Fox (not the news) is what propaganda is about.

Another responsible gun owner.
Happy Father’s Day, y’all.

A man accidentally shot his 9-year-old son after taking out his gun during a possible road rage incident in Houston, hospitalizing the child, police said.

The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, leaving him in critical condition, ABC News reported.

The incident occurred Friday night in the Fifth Ward neighborhood of the Texas city, with the man suspecting he was being followed by another driver, police said, according to local news station KTRK.

Authorities say the man, who has not been identified, took out a gun and, after arriving home, accidentally fired the weapon as he tried to put it away, injuring the child.

Zachery, You posted a link yesterday refuting my information about the lab theory being fanciful. A few problems as to credibility on all fronts. Dr Li-Meng-_Yan published her options on a site that requires no reviews as to it’s facts, It was just her opinion. Like some posts on this site lacking facts as truthfulness and accuracy. Do better next time. Please feel free to use the MRC link checking sources posted by others on here. Just display the ratings like I have for all to see.

William Marincic

What’s funny is that these democrats parrot the MSM and CNN yet 6 months to a year later the stories are all fake news and the only people that know they are fake news is people that watch conservative news.

William Aiken

Florida2015, sure Fox leans to the right. However, let’s take a look at which network is actually fair and balanced in analyzing the news, and who isn’t. Here’s a list of liberal commentators, who regularly appear on FOX to argue Democrat talking points:

Jessica Tarlov, Richard Fowler, Leslies Marshall, Marie Harf, Geraldo Rivera, Juan Williams,

Can you name me one conservative voice on CNN or MSNBC that isn’t a Never-Trumper? You can’t because there are none. The fact is if you’re a GOP strategist, hating President Trump is a prerequisite in order to be booked on those networks.

Oh, they can’t be a “never-tRumper”? Why’s that? Because you can’t handle criticism, because you follow someone with a middle-school bully mentality. Most people can see that. Just switch Fox on at Prime Time.

And two of your “Liberals on Fox” don’t pass the test. Sorry for you.

Juan Williams:
NPR terminated his contract on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, two days after he made remarks on The O’Reilly Factor.[16] He had commented, “Look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Geraldo Rivera:
Rivera is a Republican,[72] and considered running as a Republican in the 2013 United States Senate special election in New Jersey (to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Frank Lautenberg).[73] He eventually decided not to stand for election.

A friend of Donald Trump, Rivera has nevertheless confirmed that he did not vote for the Republican candidate in the 2016 election because of “spousal influence”.[74] He had also previously said he would not vote for Trump because of comments made by the latter regarding Mexicans.[75]

William Aiken

I knew it Chuck! You had to make this about Trump because you know just as I do that the only voices on CNN and MSNBC are either far-leftists or Never Trumpers. Nothing else. There’s absolutely no diversity of thought. This appeals to your obsession with the Donald. Williams and Rivera are paired against conservative analysts. That’s what fair and balanced cable TV looks like. Just because they don’t pass your leftist litmus test, doesn’t mean they don’t represent a liberal point of view. While CNN /MSNBC is restricted to merely two POVs: hatred of Donald Trump and unconditional love for Democrats and BLM/ Antifa “peaceful” protests.

I’m sorry, *I* had to make it about trump?
Are you serious? Is that really what you want to say? Because I’m pretty sure we all saw you refer to “never-Trumpers” first. Talk about litmus tests!

By the way, someday when you’re old enough, go back and review Maddow’s shows for last week where for three of them she dedicated at least a third of her show to tearing apart the Garland Department of Justice for doing nothing against tRump’s gross abuse of power in pushing “his” DoJ to secretly spy on those he didn’t like. You’ll get a lesson in how to be critical like an adult.
Not that you’d have any interest in something like that.

William Aiken

The point made was about Fox being fair and balanced in their coverage. Fox targets their content to speak to both political parties. CNN &MSDNC go out of their way to divide the country by castigating 74 million voters as racist.

Well, decide what your point is and come back and maybe we can talk. As it is, I can’t figure out if you’re more worried about whether you’re getting the truth, or if other Republicans are turning on your personal deity.

William Aiken

If your read my previous post imy point is quite clear. Didn’t mean to confuse you.

After you read mine about Prime Time Fox. You understand why it’s called Prime Time, right? Because that’s when the networks know when they’re getting the most viewers.

Not a serious or balanced personality among them. They are far, far more right than any “leftist” is liberal elsewhere.
So no one much cares about the token liberals on Fox.

William Aiken

Hannity, Carlson & Ingraham don’t pretend to be neutral, like CNN does. So to the point, can you name a conservative voice on CCN/MSNBC who’s doesn’t trash Trump? Fox has straight news anchors like Brett Baier, Martha McCallum Bill Hemmer who play it straight down the line. You can’t tell the difference from the CNN/MSNBC anchors, who claim to be impartial and their opinion anchors,

The premise of your question is what’s questionable.
“Who doesn’t trash Trump”
The evidence is piling up that he is a criminal.
The evidence is plain for the world to see that he’s a serial liar.
The evidence is plain for the world to see that he, and those like you, don’t feel he should ever be criticized. His, and those like you, feel ANY criticism is grounds for over-the-top, ad hominem assault.
The evidence is plain to see he doesn’t believe the laws and norms of our country should apply to him, most importantly how we choose a leader.

I will not entertain your hurt feelings that ‘no one treats Trump fairly’. He has clearly brought heavy scrutiny and criticism on himself. The media are human, and their job is to ask questions and investigate the truth for the public. As it happens Trump has much he tries to hide. Maybe you should be taking a serious look at why you think everyone hates him.

So no comment on your sources being low creditably? Do you not understand when you post info from these sources your credibility comes into question? You are like the boy crying wold so many times if you do post something factual no one will believe you.
Forget I just that, you already gave us the answer. Re-read ChuckD statement above. Be safe.
Me Aieken, No I don’t know how many liberal commentators appear on Fox, I do not watch it. Very little of MSM to be exact. And the medium credibility rating for Fox is the for the news shows and probably because they do have the names you mentioned on there shows helps get the medium rating. You know telling the truth. Sure does’t apply to the talking head bomb throwers who appear in the evening when posters on here are watching I suspect.

That’s the problem with liberals. They always say the source is not credible if it’s conservative but the liberal media hides the stories.

But not your predictable implication that somehow Clinton was responsible.
So, what’s next Zachary? We’re on the edges of our seats in anticipation.
Tell us how the Republicans can win enough American minds to whisk them into power!
Cyber Ninjas!™ maybe?

All of them, every one of them, show signs of childhood neglect.
“Look at me! Look at me!”
He’s one of so many.

Hey Chuck be careful, could be something Freudian going on. He may be getting sweet on you. Keeps calling you “Chuckie” – Sounds like a cute little term of endearment to me.
