LOUDONVILLE — The season-opening game for the Siena men’s basketball team is set.
The Saints will start their 2021-22 campaign with a Nov. 9 rivalry matchup at St. Bonaventure, the Siena athletic department confirmed Tuesday. The matchup for the Brother Ed Coughlin Franciscan Cup is part of a new two-game contract between the schools to continue their rivalry, with the 2022-23 game scheduled to be played in Albany.
Siena finished 12-5 last season, and won a share of the MAAC regular-season championship before falling in the MAAC quarterfinals.
The Saints’ roster departures this offseason saw the program’s top-three scorers leave the program, including the MAAC’s back-to-back Player of the Year selections in Manny Camper and Jalen Pickett. Meanwhile, Siena head coach Carmen Maciariello — who signed a contract extension and shuffled his coaching staff this offseason — has added six transfers and three incoming freshmen to his program ahead of the 2021-22 season.
St. Bonaventure finished 16-5 last season and ended its campaign in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
