Emily Wenke

Valedictorian

PARENTS: Joanne and Richard Wenke

COLLEGE OR OTHER PLANS: I will be pursuing a BS in Childhood Education with a concentration in science at St. John’s University

AFTER COLLEGE: I hope to teach in NYC, obtain my master’s degree and advanced degrees to become a school administrator.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST PART OF THE LAST YEAR OF SCHOOL and THE MOST REWARDING: The hardest part has been overcoming the challenges that COVID has presented. Whether it was sports, social and extra-curricular events, or even being in-person at school, COVID caused many problems. The most rewarding part was getting to still be able to participate in traditional high school events and some of my favorite activities such as soccer, prom, and spirit day.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF DURING THE PANDEMIC/HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED: I have learned that I can’t take anything for granted. I think that not being able to see friends and family for so long really changed my perspective on how valuable spending time with people we care about is.

WHAT IS THE MEMORY OF HIGH SCHOOL YOU WILL NEVER FORGET/WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL: A memory of high school I will never forget was the last day before everything shut down, which was SCC’s Spirit Day. I often think about our last day of normalcy and how much fun it was. I will miss my friends and all of the events, sports games, and memories I made.

WHAT’S IN YOU’RE YOUR MUSIC PLAYER: I have been listening to the Lumineers recently.

FAVORITE BOOK OR AUTHOR: Rupi Kaur

BEST PART ABOUT GRADUATING: I’m excited for the next chapter in my life and growing as a person into an adult.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: My grandmother inspires me to pursue my dreams and my parents inspire me to try my best in everything I do.
