Saratoga Central Catholic High School
PARENTS: Ellen and Carlos Ares
COLLEGE OR OTHER PLANS: I will be studying biomedical engineering at Stony Brook University.
AFTER COLLEGE: I plan to pursue either graduate or med school.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST PART OF THE LAST YEAR OF SCHOOL and THE MOST REWARDING: The hardest part of the last school year was the transition to an almost 100% online curriculum. The most rewarding part was being able to be in school and enjoy my senior year with my classmates. I was able to participate in all of the sports and other activities I wanted and became closer with those I was with as we navigated the challenges of this year together.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF DURING THE PANDEMIC/HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED: During the pandemic, I have learned the value of friendships but also the value of time alone. After being quarantined a number of times, I’ve learned to concentrate and take the time to better myself, while also realizing the impact friendships can have on my wellbeing.
WHAT IS THE MEMORY OF HIGH SCHOOL YOU WILL NEVER FORGET/WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL: The memory of high school I will never forget was my first Peer Ministry retreat at Pyramid Lake in my junior year. At that overnight retreat, I not only had an amazing time exploring the secluded lake and area around it but I also formed friendships that will outlast my time at Spa Catholic. I will miss the bonds I made with friends and teachers and the memories made.
WHAT’S IN YOUR MUSIC PLAYER: Recently I have been listening to Zac Brown Band, Hozier, and John Mayer.
FAVORITE BOOK OR AUTHOR: My favorite author is Chuck Klosterman
BEST PART ABOUT GRADUATING: The best part about graduating is the feeling of fulfillment that I have successfully finished the first chapter of my life.
