Saratoga Springs High School
PARENTS: Sonia Silva and Keith Forbes
COLLEGE OR OTHER PLANS: Columbia University.
AFTER COLLEGE: I plan to pursue a career in the film industry news media.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST PART OF THE LAST YEAR OF SCHOOL and THE MOST REWARDING: The hardest part was feeling removed from the larger high school community. From most clubs being cancelled to only seeing half of my classmates at a time because of hybrid learning. It made it difficult to feel connected. The most rewarding part was seeing the perseverance of the class. It was inspiring to see my friends and I apply for college, succeed inside the classroom, and pursue interests outside of the classroom – even in the middle of a global pandemic.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF DURING THE PANDEMIC/HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED: How important community is to me. The past year, I have become more appreciative of my relationships with friends, classmates and teachers. I think the pandemic has made me aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance – hanging out with friends, doing a hobby or relaxing is just as important as schoolwork.
WHAT IS THE MEMORY OF SCHOOL YOU WILL NEVER FORGET/ WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL: The “little things” the most. It’s the small moments like fooling around with friends during lunch or laughing with classmates during a group project.
WHAT’S IN YOUR MUSIC PLAYER: A Tribe Called Quest, Mac Miller and the “Paddington 2” soundtrack.
FAVORITE BOOK OR AUTHOR: “Cannery Row” by John Steinbeck
BEST PART ABOUT GRADUATING: Celebrating our achievements alongside friends and classmates, especially after such an unusual and challenging year.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: My parents, friends and good movies!
