MacKenzie Fletcher

Valedictorian

PARENTS: Michael and Lindsay Fletcher

COLLEGE OR OTHER PLANS: SUNY Plattsburgh

AFTER COLLEGE: Become a certified birth-6th grade childhood education and special education teacher.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST PART OF THE LAST YEAR OF SCHOOL and THE MOST REWARDING: The hardest part was being separated from the rest of my classmates. I wanted nothing more than to be in a classroom with my whole class instead of just a few other students. The most rewarding was being able to accomplish so many things even though it was hard. After a very difficult year of both in person and online learning, we are graduating, and all of that hard work has finally paid off.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF DURING THE PANDEMIC/HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED: It’s no secret that this year was probably the most difficult year I have ever experienced. However, even though it was difficult, and it was easy to feel alone and become discouraged, I have learned that overcoming obstacles is just a part of life. I have learned in order to succeed and push through the tough times, you have to really evaluate yourself and make sure you’re okay. It’s okay to struggle, but you have to stay positive and remind yourself that better days are coming. I’ve changed in a multitude of ways, appreciating in person school like never before and realizing that I really have to work on my well being and making myself happy in order to be successful.

WHAT IS THE MEMORY OF SCHOOL YOU WILL NEVER FORGET/WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL: I will never forget when my high school band traveled to Disney World on a bus so we could perform in Disney Springs. It was one of the best times of my life. I’m going to miss all of the clubs and activities I’ve been involved in for years now, especially band and chorus. I love practicing with the kids in my school and it’s going to be weird moving on.

WHAT’S IN YOUR MUSIC PLAYER: Pink (“Cover Me in Sunshine”)

FAVORITE BOOK OR AUTHOR: Book, “The Handmaid’s Tale”; author, Colleen Hoover

BEST PART ABOUT GRADUATING: Is knowing that I’m moving on to making my dreams come true. I’ve wanted to be a teacher my whole life, and now I’m going to make that dream happen.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: My brother, Logan, inspires me. He has impacted my life in so many ways, and without him, I don’t think I would know what I would want to do with my life. He proves to me every day that anything is possible, even when it’s a struggle.
