Local men charged in connection with July 4th ‘party’ in 2020


Two local men have been charged in connection with a July 3 and 4th overnight party in Saratoga County in 2020 where one of the men is accused of having oral sex with two teenage girls, one 16 and one 17, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Vincent L. Avila, 22, of Schenectady and Michael T. May, 25, of Mechanicville were arrested and charged on Thursday, June 24, in connection with events that occurred at a Malta hotel last year, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The incident was reported in April of 2021. 

Avila allegedly had oral sex with the two females, 16 and 17, at the hotel, while May reportedly provided the teenagers with alcohol and marijuana.

Avila, of 1297 Keyes Ave. in Schenectady,  is charged with one count each of criminal sex act and sexual misconduct, in addition to endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawfully dealing with a child. May, of 183 Sparrow Drive in Mechanicville, is charged with one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child.

May and Avila were arrested on June 24, 2021, after last year’s hotel incidents were reported to law enforcement in April 2021.

Avila was arraigned in the Malta Town Court for the July 4th, 2020 incident, and was released on bail posted for a prior offense. May will be arraigned at a later date.
