Tim Blodgett’s weekly bass tournament taking off from Lee’s Parks last Thursday attracted 46 boats and the fishing was very good. Leading the way was Mike Marini of Guilderland and Mike Towner of Galway with a five-bass limit totaling 12.59 pounds. First place paid $935.

The Indian Lake team of Tim Paraso and Matt Belmore were second with 12.02 pounds and received $615. In third place was Dave Monger of Saratoga Springs and John Jenkins of Stillwater with 11.97 pounds worth $315. Fourth place with 11.69 pounds and receiving $205 was the father-and-son team of Bob Pelletier of Castleton and John Pelletier of Nassau. The biggest bass was a 3.79-pound bigmouth caught by the Saratoga team of Bill Pickett and John Kapack, worth $460.

CROSSBOW RIFLE DRAWS INTEREST

I have received quite a few emails and some telephone calls from my readers about my Umarex air rifle. Right now, I am awaiting the arrival of a few more arrows. I probably will head out for woodchucks now, but afterwards I hope to go to Easton View Outfitters for a shot at one of his big hogs.

On the morning of Oct. 1, I will be sitting in the bushes awaiting a tom turkey. But should I not have shot a tom by Oct. 17, I will take a hen.

MY BEST DEER HUNT

Recently while visiting the Saratoga Tackle fishing  and bow shop, a gentleman who reads my column asked me what my best deer hunt was. When I said, “Never had to pull the trigger,” he just looked at me.

I smiled and told him it was at Easton View Outfitters located in Valley Falls. I had been asked by the owner Dave Vanderzee to guide Eddie Ryan of Massachusetts, a Wounded Warrior “kid.” Just looking at him in that chair with a rifle across his legs, he said, “Let’s hunt,” and off we went. Through the high grass, up and down the hill and in the swamp. We saw deer that day, but not what I wanted for him.

On day two Eddie and I were in the woods when it was dark but, again, small bucks. I could see Eddie was worried, but as he said, God will be with us today. And at 11 a.m. Eddie dropped a big buck. Boy,  was I happy and all of us were happy. If you want to see Eddie’s deer go to my blog at http://fishguydblog.blogspot.com.

DOCTOR LIKES FISHING

Last week I made my regular visit to my doctor of 40 years and during my visit he got to talking about fishing. He said he wanted to go fishing but hasn’t gone. I smiled and asked, “Got time to go fishing with me?” He answered yes, so I am going to rent a boat with a motor from the Lake Lonely Water Sports. I haven’t fished that lake but I know it has fish and big bass.
