A police officer with the Department of Environmental Conservation received an anonymous tip in January that a man brought large deer antlers into a local taxidermist using another hunter’s tag in November 2020.

The licensed hunter revealed in an interview to the DEC officer that he did not shoot the deer, but rather had lent his tags to the other man. The licensed hunter was charged with lending his tags to another person.

The man with the revoked hunting license later admitted to shooting the deer on opening day of deer season in the Southern Zone in 2020. He was charged with hunting while revoked, killing a deer while revoked, and illegally transporting the deer.

The revoked hunter was convicted in the Town of Milton court and sentenced to 10 days in jail.
