The bear was spotted Sunday morning in the area of Hannaford. Officials posted a photo of the bear, spotted in the “Algonquin area” of the town at about 12:30 p.m., “where he stopped to snack on a bird feeder,” officials said just after 1 p.m. in an alert on the town’s site.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has been notified and will be looking for the bear, officials said.

“We ask that you keep small children and pets inside for their safety until the location of the bear can be ascertained,” the town wrote.

Residents should not try to approach or feed the bear.

Anyone who sees the bear should call the non-emergency police number at 518-630-0911.

Sunday’s sighting follows on in Schenectady’s Woodlawn area June 15. That bear wandered around the neighborhood for about two hours, then went into a wooded area of the Woodlawn Nature Preserve on its own.
