Former Union College baseball standout Jake Fishman’s bid to win an Olympic medal with Team Israel came to an end Tuesday morning in Yokohama, Japan.

Former Major League Baseball player Jose Bautista hit an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Dominican Republic a 7-6 victory over Israel in an elimination game.

Israel took a 6-5 lead into the ninth. Johan Mieses led off the ninth for the Domincan Republic with a home run off reliever Zack Weiss to tie the score. Former New York Yankee Melkey Cabrera followed with a single, and Yefri Perez ran for him. Perez moved to second on Roldani Baldwin’s sacrifice bunt.

After Jeison Guzman was intentionally walked, DK Sharabi replaced Weiss. Gustavo Nunez hit into a fielder’s choice, with Guzman forced out at second base. Bautista followed with his game-winning hit.

Fishman appeared in three games. He pitched 3 2-3 innings of relief in Israel’s 6-5, 10-inning loss to South Korea last Thursday. Fishman struck out two and walked one. Ji Wan Oh hit a two-run homer off Fishman in the fourth inning.

In Sunday’s 12-5 win over Mexico, Fishman allowed a run on three hits in 1 1-3 innings.
