Niskayuna seeks comments on police chief candidates

Niskayuna – The town is asking residents to submit comments on their interactions with the three candidates for the open police chief position as the town continues debating who will serve in the position.

The Town Board, along with Town Attorney Paul Briggs, Deputy Town Attorney Alaina Finan and Comptroller Ismat Alam, have interviewed Deputy Police Chief Michael Stevens, Sgt. Todd Frenyea and Sgt. Justin Kochan. All three are members of the town’s police force.

Question topics included public safety, quality of life, traffic and human resource problems, issues facing the department and town and trends in law enforcement, according to a press release from the town.

The town wants residents’ input on the character of the candidates, said Supervisor Yasmine Syed. Those comments are due by Friday, Aug. 13. The Town Board expects to name a new chief by Sept. 14, including holding a special meeting if necessary.

Comments must be sent by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13th to town Comptroller Ismat Alam at [email protected]. The Gazette incorrectly reported the date comments are due.
