Police: Schenectady man wanted on warrants found with drugs, gun


SCHENECTADY – A city man wanted on warrants was arrested this week and found with drugs and a gun, authorities said.

Amon J. Johnson, 25, of Hamilton Street, was arrested early Monday and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies.

Police spotted Johnson and attempted to arrest him on warrants just before 1 a.m. Monday near 612 State St. when attempted to run from officers, according to allegations filed in court.

Officers soon caught up with him and took him into custody. They then soon found a quantity of cocaine and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic weapon on him, according to the allegations.

Police soon determined the gun had been previously reported stolen in Orlando, Fl., according to the allegations.

Johnson also faces one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, misdemeanor resisting arrest and criminal impersonation.
