Cuomo montage an attempt to deflect

If I could send the governor a short note that I thought he would actually read, I would say:
Your ill-conceived montage features you kissing and hugging people of all ages, races, and genders.
On the “campaign trail,” politicians will kiss and hug just about anything that presents itself as human.
The photos you presented, taken with scores of people observing, documented with cameras rolling, are nothing more than an effort to deflect the testimonies of nearly a dozen women whom you were smart enough to violate behind closed doors.
No one is saying you’re stupid, governor.
You’re just a serial predator.
Frank J. Ciervo

We must act now to rescue our future

We need to build a better future. We are having problems that could get worse if we don’t act now.
Crazy weather. Record wildfires out west (smoke coming here, check out that weird moon). Record rainfall and flooding in Germany and China (Rensselaer, Schoharie, Fonda locally). Record drought out west. Record heat, like 120F in western Canada. Increased corporate toxins in our air, water and food.
Clearly, we need to stop messing up Mother Earth.
We need a 10-year plan to stop polluting, reducing 10% a year. We need to do it locally, and globally.
The people who are supposed to represent us (Biden, Schumer, Gillibrand, Stefanik, Tonko, Cuomo, et. al.) need to step up now or get out of the way, as Greta Thunberg so honestly puts it.
“We have a planet with a problem.
We need to build a better future, and we need to act right now!”

Mr. Restifo, you don’t get it. There have been extreme highs and lows throughout history.

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922. As reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post

Zach, you must live in your own bubble and obviously don’t read or listen to experts from around the world. Do you think climate change is a hoax? Is that what Trump, Fox, NY Post, Newsmax, QAnon, etc. are feeding you? Do you even know what greenhouse gas means?

So I guess the human activity that dumped “68 million tons of pollutants” in to the earth’s fragile atmosphere in 2020 is cooling things off. – It is undeniably, scientifically proven these pollutants are pushing the envelope on climate change.

I understand that there are natural cyclical events that caused climate change, but like a go-cart coasting downhill if you put a motor on it it’s going to go faster and we humans are putting a motor on climate change. A big one!

No Zachary, i repeat, it is you who doesn’t get it.

Zachary, Perhaps you would better understand what’s happening to the earth’s atmosphere if you imagined the results of staying in your closed garage with a running gas powered weed whacker for a while.

Don’t you owe South Dakota State Representative Tim R. Goodwin some credit?
You lifted that verbiage word-for-word from his page.

This isn’t middle school or your little Parler group you’re talking to here.

As to the message, what we’re dealing with now is not another blip in the weather, it’s a trend in the climate. Understand?
No, you could but you don’t want to.

Chuck, actually its posted in hundreds of places including Snopes but I got it from its source and have had it for about 10 years. If we stopped all greenhouse gasses tomorrow it would barely register a blip with , China, Russia, India, Vietnam, and other developing countries polluting at will.

Nice investigative work Chuck. Especially meaningful because I remember Zachary calling someone out for plagiarism earlier this year.

Peter Looker: “Clearly, we need to stop messing up Mother Earth….“We have a planet with a problem. We need to build a better future, and we need to act right now!” ~ I totally agree!!

“The people who are supposed to represent us (Biden, Schumer, Gillibrand, Stefanik, Tonko, Cuomo, et. al.) need to step up now.” ~ Again I agree, but there is a big problem called Republican politicians that are deniers of science and climate change. They are the obstacle that are hampering “building a better future”……

Also these same Republican are hamstringing the fight against Covid by again not following SCIENCE, SCIENCE, SCIENCE.

Climate Deniers in the 117th Congress – Center for American Progress

Republicans in Congress are out of step with the American public on climate

I could post scores of similar links regarding Republicans and the obstacles they present when it comes to working toward fighting climate change. – Apparently they don’t understand science or don’t care about the future of the world as long as their pockets are lined.

Peter Looker – Your heart is in the right place, but asking politicians to “get out of the way” won’t solve anything since private industry will not stop polluting “to do the right thing” for our planet. Biden has been the most aggressive in setting out a climate plan and getting the world leaders to help in this global fight. He just announced requiring U.S. manufacturers to dedicating at least 50% of their fleet to electric vehicles. Europe has a goal of eliminating all gas powered vehicles by 2035. China is also in the game by subsidizing and requiring electric vehicles. This global competition is what’s needed to combat climate change. After four lost years under Trump who couldn’t even pronounce climate change and encouraged oil production and other negative environmental practices, Biden and the Democrats are blowing by the anti-science, pro industry republicans who are the ones “getting in the way” and have been for decades.

Joe, harnessing climate change is not about raking the forests, it’s about stopping human-produced greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide etc.

Remember how the Prime Minister of Denmark(?) showed Trump what his country does to keep the forest clean and then Trump went to California to let them know the secret he learned in Europe? That’s where Joe got the idea.

Mr. Harris what that shows is that Trump was smart enough to recognize a good idea and promote it here, the only problem is that he took the idea to the liberal western states that refused to learn, and year after year we have the same thing, fires and then mudslides.

Fat lot of good that’ll do when you have 0% humidity and moisture, a precipitation deficit over the past several years, and 60mph winds.
And then you have something like PSE&G who see unstable power infrastructure as the cost of doing business.

Joseph Vendetti

1.) we have been doing controlled burns and under brush removal in NY for at least the last 30 yrs – it prevents forest fires and billions in damages

2.) I am all for carbon reduction- its my livelihood- have knocked down 200+ large coal fired boilers at over 50 power plants across the globe

3.) I have 15 kw of solar panels on my primary residence in NY and 20 kw at my home in Naples

4.) i have a hybrid tahoe & fully electric honda

5.) all of our heavy equipment is tier 4

So i was making a suggestion not looking to be compared to Trump

I think Joe is always trying to bring balance to the discussions on here by presenting a middle ground by pointing out the obvious in may cases. He dings the Republicans all the time for there lies and mis-information but tries to present a common sense middle ground of the others comments . IF the Republicans on here or in Congress were were not so hell bent on I win you lose we could get somewhere.Being a resident of the great State of Flori da you know my opinions carry great relevance and wisdom. Just ask the Governor he will tell you that

So you can also see the peril in trying walk the middle ground. Your governor is Exhibit A in what’s happening to the other of our two parties. There’s no longer a “reality” that we at least could agree on. Now it’s the Democrats and some Republicans moving forward solving problems, and the remnants of the GOP battling their hallucinations, sure that everyone else is out to get them simply because we disagree. They’ve experienced a profound breakdown in their ability to critically assess the world. It’s really hard to find anything resembling rationality coming from them to try to empathize with.

Inspired by a Gazette reader

I just subscribed to the Gazette. I live in Albany but the Times Union is so corporate and blasé compared to the Gazette so the Gazette is my hometown paper now. With my new subscription I wondered through the paper and landed on the Opinion page where Peter Looker’s posting motivated me to follow up with my own. Hardly anyone knows that we have 7 years left of our global greenhouse gas emissions budget. After that it’s run away climate change no matter what humans do. SEVEN YEARS until the planet warms on its own feedback loop affecting all life on earth. As if being in the middle of the 6th mass extinction on earth isn’t enough now we’re piling an unlivable climate on top of reduced and polluted habitat. Why isn’t everyone in the streets and yelling from the roof tops? I’ll be out there, standing on a street corner with my sign. Maybe I’ll run into Peter.

Welcome Sandy!
I subscribe to the T-U, have for decades just like the Gazette. It has it’s qualities but I find their website almost unreadable, with all the flashing windows and autoplay videos and numerous other distractions. I just want to read the news. But I think the gold standard for local journalism in our area has to be the venerable Altamont Enterprise.
