Albany Athletics win Albany Twilight League Championship Series opener

ALBANY — Nate Novak’s three-run homer highlighted a six-run third inning that sparked the Albany Athletics to an 11-4 win over the Waterford Nationals in Game 1 of the Albany Twilight League Championship Series on Friday at Bleeker Stadium.

Chris Salamida had a two doubles, one of which drove in two runs in the fourth inning for the A’s (33-2-1). Andrew Pedone had a solo homer and single, Tim Carroll doubled and singled and RJ Pingitore and Nick Hansen each had two singled for Albany.

A’s right-hander Kyle Lambert entered the game in the top of the second and tossed 4 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs, five hits and striking out 11 batters for the win.

Ivan Plata had a solo home run and single for the Nationals (18-7). Nolan Duda added an RBI double and two singles.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Sunday at 7:15 p.m. at Bleecker.
