SCHENECTADY — The Union College football team was ranked No. 15 in the D3football.com Top 25 Preseason poll released Wednesday.

Union, which started preseason practices last week, didn’t play games during the 2020-21 academic year because of restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. When the Dutchmen were last on the gridiron on Nov. 30, 2019, it was the only blemish in an otherwise spectacular season. Union collected 11 consecutive wins to start that season before the run was finally ended with a 62-41 loss to Salisbury in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Union is the only Liberty League team ranked in the preseason poll. Previously, 2006 was the only year that the Dutchmen were ranked in the preseason poll.

Mary Hardin-Baylor, located in Belton, Texas, was ranked No. 1 in this year’s preseason poll.
