LOUDONVILLE — The Siena men’s basketball team will open its 2021-22 MAAC season with a home game against Manhattan in early December, while Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member Rick Pitino and Iona visit the Saints on Feb. 11.

The MAAC released Friday its men’s basketball schedule, a slate of games that completes the Saints’ regular-season schedule. Siena previously announced its non-conference schedule, which starts with a Nov. 9 game at St. Bonaventure and includes a trip to play Georgetown of the Big East.

Siena’s MAAC opener against Manhattan is scheduled for Dec. 3 at Times Union Center in Albany. The Saints will play a game two days later at Saint Peter’s, then finish their non-conference season before resuming conference play with a New Year’s Eve game against Pitino’s Iona squad.

Siena plays five of its first eight league games on the road, then has a stretch of eight games with six at home. The Saints’ regular-season concludes with a trip to western New York to play Niagara and Canisius.

MAAC games this year will primarily take place on Fridays and Sundays.

Siena won a share of the MAAC regular-season championship last season, but fell in the MAAC quarterfinals to Iona, which advanced to the NCAA tournament. Siena’s roster for the 2021-22 season includes nine new players, a group that Anthony Gaines — a Northwestern transfer — highlights. From last season, Siena only returns 38.1% of its scoring and 35.5% of its rebounding, while four of the team’s starters from the Saints’ season-ending loss are no longer with the program, including former MAAC Player of the Year winners Manny Camper and Jalen Pickett.

Siena didn’t play any home games last season at Times Union Center because of restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the team played its games on Siena’s campus.

The Saints were 14-0 during the 2019-20 season at Times Union Center.
