High Schools: Niskayuna boys’ cross country relay team wins title

The Niskayuna cross country relay team of Ryan Hesler, Daniel Malatesa and Julian Franijeh won the boys’ championship at Saturday’s Niskayuna Ekiden Invitational, finishing the 3×2,400-meter course in 22:39.12, ahead of Shenendehowa’s top team of Andre Adonnino, Michael Clay and Nathan Brimhall.

Shaker’s trio of Charlotte Dunkel, Ciara Bullington and Leonni Griffin won the girls’ race in 27:05.01, 21 seconds clear of the Niskayuna trio of Mary Kate Cestaro, Abigail Thomas and Orit Shiang.

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys’ cross country team had the top four finishers, led by winner Matthew Rounds, to capture the team title at the Fonda-Fultonville Invitational. Mohonasen won the girls’ championship at the event, with Rachel Miller scoring the win as four Mohonasen runners finished in the top five.

In boys’ soccer, Middleburgh got hat tricks from both Kaurice Bell and Austin Johns to defeat Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg 7-2 in the championship game of the Middleburgh Kickoff Tournament.
