GUILDERLAND — Niskayuna-based Felthousen’s Florist and Greenhouse has opened a third location in Stuyvesant Plaza.

Felthousen’s will supplement its array of custom floral arrangements at the new retail store with fresh-cut, silk and permanent flowers; plants; cards; chocolates; and gift items.

The company headquarters is at 1537 Van Antwerp Road in Niskayuna and it has a second location at 250 Columbia Street in Cohoes.

Felthousen’s new retail shop occupies the same space that was home for 25 years to a satellite retail location of Emil J. Nagengast Florist, which opted to consolidate operations to its flagship store at Ontario and Bensen streets in Albany.

Nagengast and Felthousen are both long-term fixtures on the retail scene, and have similar histories:

Emil Nagengast in 1910 began selling flowers at the same Ontario Street location his descendants operate today. Felthousen opened its doors in 1913, when Niskayuna was mostly farmland, and three generations of the family operate the business today.
