On Sept. 11, 2001, I was working for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany. We also had offices at the World Trade Center.
The Tax Department lost a lot of good people that day, including Diane M. Parsons, with whom I worked. Diane was in Manhattan at the World Trade Center on assignment.
When the initial reports began to filter into the office, there was confusion over what was transpiring. The happy mood of that Tuesday morning was replaced by fear and anxiety. A directed departure sent all staff home at 1 p.m.
It always makes me a little sad on that day.
