ROTTERDAM – A Rotterdam woman used a baseball bat to damage a BMW and injure an occupant of the vehicle Tuesday evening, police said.
The injured occupant suffered a large bump to the back her head, as well as short-term memory loss, according to allegations filed in court.
Erika Sanchez, 39, of Roberta Road, was arrested after the incident and charged with second-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief, felonies, along with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
An unidentified 16-year-old was also charged with criminal mischief, police said.
The incident happened on Roberta Road, near Arlene Street, just after 7 p.m. Tuesday night, authorities said.
Sanchez is accused of attacking the BMW with the baseball bat, breaking windows and denting it, while a total of four people were inside, according to allegations filed in court.
The injured occupant sought further medical attention at Ellis Hospital, according to the allegations.
Police initially responded to the area for a disturbance and arrived to find people around the car and the car damaged, police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Collins said.
Officers determined that one group had come to the house based off an earlier incident that happened outside the town, Collins said. A fight then took place.
Collins did not have further information on the source of the alleged dispute.
Sanchez was arraigned Wednesday morning in Rotterdam Town Court and released to return to court later.
