High schools: Niskayuna football beats Ballston Spa

The Niskayuna football team scored all of its points before halftime, as the Silver Warriors secured a 28-14 Class A victory Friday against Ballston Spa.

Niskayuna led 28-0 at halftime on its way to improving to 3-1 on the season. Dan Quinn rushed for one score and passed for three. Two of Quinn’s touchdown passes found Dahvion Wimberly, while Tanner Wood scored the other touchdown.

For Ballston Spa, Isaiah Hannah and Andrew Kramer each scored a rushing touchdown.

Amsterdam won its Class A game at Columbia. Amsterdam’s defense pressured Columbia into eight sacks and forced a pair of safeties in a 17-6 win. Caesar Thompson returned a free kick following a safety for a 77-yard score late in the first half to give the 2-0 Rams the lead for good.

A career-night for Aidan Bleibtrey led Queensbury to a 51-28 Class A win against South Glens Falls. Bleibtrey recorded career-highs in rushing yards with 156 and touchdowns with three. Four other Queensbury players each scored one touchdown, with Ian Reynolds returning a kickoff 71 yards for a score and Trevon Bailey registering a 66-yard rushing score. Orion DeLisle and Quyntin Fallen each scored a pair of touchdowns for South Glens Falls.

Burnt Hills outlasted La Salle 24-21 in a Class A matchup. La Salle led 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Spartans tied it at 21 after Jaleef Joseph’s touchdown rush. Then, Michael Sbuttoni provided the game-winning points with a 37-yard field goal.

In a Class B matchup, Mohonasen pulled away in the second half for a 42-13 victory against Broadalbin-Perth.

On the road at Schuylerville, Fonda-Fultonville fell 14-7 in a matchup of state-ranked Class C programs. The Braves were playing their second game in five days after defeating Corinth/Hadley-Luzerne on Monday. Jonathan Cranker scored Fonda-Fultonville’s touchdown in the fourth quarter, which Schuylerville entered ahead 14-0 after touchdowns from Ryan Dow and Zach Bowen.

DEMPSEY LEADS SCOTIA-GLENVILLE
Lily Dempsey had three goals to lead Scotia-Glenville in its 11-0 Foothills Council girls’ soccer win against Johnstown. Sage Luke contributed one goal and three assists, while Lucy Crounse had two goals and an assist. Kortney Clark made five saves in the shutout.

Bayley Duffy had two goals and an assist in Queensbury’s 4-2 win against Schuylerville.

Leah Valovic scored a pair of goals in Northville’s 4-0 Western Athletic Conference win Friday against Middleburgh. Kaelin Thompson and Lily Klippel each scored a goal.

DEAN, JACKSON LEAD WAY AT SUBURBAN COUNCIL TOURNAMENT
At the Suburban Council boys’ and girls’ golf tournament at Van Patten Golf Club, Kellen Dean of Saratoga Springs was the boys’ medalist with a 2-under-par 70 and Maria Jackson of Saratoga Springs was the girls’ medalist with a 5-over-par 41.

In the boys’ competition, Shaker’s Kieran Cummings finished in second place with a 73, while Saratoga Springs’ Charlie Blake, Bethlehem’s Andrew Cerf and Saratoga Springs’ Declan Ladd tied for third with marks of 74.

In the girls’ competition, Shenendehowa’s Campbell Kennedy finished in second place with a 42. Ballston Spa’s Emma Duval tied with Guilderland’s Megna Naidu and Hanna Mitchell for third place with marks of 43.

Saratoga Springs won the boys’ team title, while Guilderland won the girls’ team title.

ALBANY ACADEMY WINS LEAGUE TITLE
With a team score of 312, Albany Academy secured the Colonial Council boys’ golf championship at Capital Hills.

Ben Heidbreder led Albany Academy with a competition-best 74, while teammate James Gerdeman finished in second place with a 77. Albany Academy’s Ryan Taulien took third place with a 79, Ichabod Crane’s Topher Pelesz registered an 80 to come in fourth and Ichabod Crane’s Tanner LaTorre took fifth with an 81. In sixth place was Albany Academy’s Spencer Steinhardt with an 82, Brady Holzhauer of Ichabod Crane and Townes McKiernan of Schenectady/Mohonasen finished tied for seventh with marks of 84, while marks of 85 tied Schalmont’s Matt Stoliker and Catholic Central’s John Purficato for ninth to complete the event’s top-10 finishers.

In the team competition, Ichabod Crane finished in second place at 333, La Salle was third with a 350, Cobleskill-Richmondville finished fourth with a mark of 395 and Schalmont’s 396 netted it fifth. Catholic Central and Voorheesville tied for sixth place with a mark of 397, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk was eighth at 428 and Schenectady/Mohonasen didn’t register a team score.

IN OTHER ACTION
Quin Barton scored two goals and had an assist in Schoharie’s 4-0 Western Athletic Conference boys’ soccer win against Mekeel Christian Academy.
Kylee Decker contributed 11 aces and 15 assists in Galway’s 25-3, 25-10, 25-5 Western Athletic Conference girls’ volleyball win against Berne-Knox-Westerlo. Julia Reedy added five aces and five kills in the win.

Saratoga Catholic defeated Hoosic Valley 25-6, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23 in a Wasaren League match. Allison Motler had 12 assists and Kara Wengert contributed 12 digs for Saratoga Catholic.

Schalmont defeated Cohoes 25-10, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20 in a Colonial Council matchup. Alexa Knapik had 22 assists in the victory, while Karissa Antoine registered 11 kills.

Aidan Calhoun recorded 23 assists and Liam Calhoun had 10 kills in Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys’ volleyball’s 25-10, 25-17, 25-13 win against Saratoga Springs in a Suburban Council matchup. Gavin Sweet added a dozen digs and Ben Pearce had eight kills.
