High schools: Saratoga blanks Niskayuna in field hockey

With two goals in each quarter after halftime, the Saratoga Springs field hockey program secured a 4-0 Suburban Council win Monday against Niskayuna.

Morgan Flatley scored two goals, while Aubrey Ide and Sara Maslak each added one goal.

Julia Cropsey made a dozen saves for Niskayuna, while Gracie Holtby recorded one in the Blue Streaks’ shutout.

Skyler Van Wormer registered a goal and an assist in Guilderland’s 2-0 win against Columbia. Chelsea King also scored a goal.

In Foothills Council field hockey, South Glens Falls defeated Johnstown 9-0. Jillian Willis led South Glens Falls with four goals and two assists, while Mia Benincasa registered three goals and two assists.

JACK LEADS SCOTIA-GLENVILLE

Kofi Jack registered two goals and an assist in Scotia-Glenville’s 4-0 Foothills Council boys’ soccer win. Liam Chase and Xavier DeLuca each added a goal.

Schuylerville won 2-0 against Broadalbin-Perth. Balasi Witt and Sam Tyler each scored a goal for Schuylerville. Broadalbin-Perth was 7-0-0 heading into the matchup.

OESJ secured a 7-0 Western Athletic Conference win against Galway. Andrew Snell had three goals and an assist, while Mason Snell contributed two goals and an assist.

Wyatt Sira had four goals and two assists in Northville’s 10-0 win against Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Miles Weaver contributed two goals and an assist, and Ethan Moore had four assists.

Fonda-Fultonville led at halftime, but second-half goals from Blake Smart, Dan Bernhardt and Maddox Gangeme produced a 3-1 win for Schoharie. Mike Carpenter scored for Fonda-Fultonville.

After falling behind 3-0, Cohoes registered a 4-3 Colonial Council win against Schalmont. Anthony Buttofucco and Jad Essoulaimani each had two goals for Cohoes, while Drew Kusek registered three for Schalmont.

Harry Haworth had three goals and two assists in Albany Academy’s 9-0 win against Catholic Central.

In a 15-2 Wasaren League win against Saratoga Catholic, Wyqie Aguda and Colin McNutt each had three goals for Mechanicville. McNutt added three assists. Andrew Kraszewski contributed two goals and three assists, while Luke Micklas had two goals and two assists. Aiden Law scored both goals for Saratoga Catholic.

DUANESBURG POSTS GIRLS’ SOCCER WIN

Molly Laudato, Jessica Archambeault and Brooke Greco each scored a goal in Duanesburg’s 3-1 Western Athletic Conference girls’ soccer win against Middleburgh.

Days after becoming Section II girls’ soccer’s all-time leader in goals scored, Katie Krohn registered five goals — and an assist — in Schoharie’s 6-1 win against Fonda-Fultonville. Haley Drinon had three assists.

Galway posted a 4-0 win against OESJ. Stephanie Martin had two goals and an assist, while Hannah French made eight saves in the shutout. Alaina Aschmutat had a goal and an assist.

In a Colonial Council matchup, Simone Cassano scored two goals to lead Schalmont to a 3-1 win against Cohoes. Gianna Viscusi also scored for Schalmont.

Mohonasen won 8-0 against Cobleskill-Richmondville. Hannah Bachorik registered four goals, while Courtney Bush and Matti Swan each had one goal and two assists.

ULLMAN STARS FOR MOHONASEN

Mohonasen received nine kills and eight digs from Katie Ullman in its 25-11, 25-22, 17-25, 25-5 Colonial Council girls’ volleyball win against Albany Academy. Andrea Skoda had six kills and Sarah Fish added five in the victory.

In Western Athletic Conference play, Galway defeated Duanesburg 25-5, 25-14, 25-11. Julia Reedy posted 22 kills, 15 digs and five aces in the win, while Kylee Decker contributed 24 assists and six aces.

Jacqueline Fornabia contributed five kills and five blocks in Saratoga Catholic’s 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 Wasaren League girls’ volleyball win against Mechanicville. Allison Motler added eight assists in the win. For Mechanicville, Jenna Tesoriero led the way with 14 assists.

In a 26-28, 25-21, 25-13, 25-16 non-league loss to Oneonta, Chloe Ekstein had 14 assists for Mekeel Christian Academy. Rose Seredensky and Alanah Barnhill each had five kills in defeat.

POOL RECORD SET

In Saratoga Springs’ road 94-79 win against Ballston Spa in Suburban Council girls’ swimming and diving, Rachel Love set a pool record in the 500 freestyle.

Love, of Saratoga Springs, won the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:09.21.

Love also won the 50 freestyle.

BURNT HILLS, GALWAY TAKE TOP SPOTS

In the latest New York Volleyball Coaches Association rankings, two Section II teams are ranked No. 1.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake is ranked No. 1 in Class A, while Galway takes the top spot in Class D.

In Class AA, Shenendehowa is ranked No. 5. No Section II teams are ranked in Class B or C, while Lake George is No. 4 in Class D.

Argyle and Hartford each garnered honorable-mention status in the Class D poll.
