MALTA — GlobalFoundries has launched a program that will provide full-time employment and free training to apprentice maintenance technicians at its Fab 8 computer chip factory in Malta.
The competency-based SEMI Industry Approved Apprenticeship Program at Fab 8 is a partnership between GF and SEMI, formerly Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International.
The 18-month apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training, instructor-led classes, web-based courses and college courses.
It includes a $5,000 tuition credit for classes at Hudson Valley Community College.
Qualified employees are in demand at GF, which is expanding production at its existing plant and plans to build a second fab on site.
