The Niskayuna Central School District Board of Education has approved hiring an auditing firm, but the district provided few details regarding what the auditors will be working on.
The board met Wednesday at 8 a.m. for five minutes to approve hiring Marvin and Company, which has an office in Latham to conduct “a special procedures audit,” according to the board’s agenda.
No additional documents for the resolution were provided with the meeting agenda, including the letter of engagement with the company.
District spokesperson Matt Leon said the school district was conducting an “internal investigation,” but would not provide further detail on the matter.
“It wouldn’t be appropriate to comment on any internal review, at least not until complete, to allow the necessary process to run its course,” Leon said in an email.
The district also declined to share the cost of hiring the company or the engagement letter the district signed with them.
“We have shared as much as is appropriate at this time and may be able to provide more information as early as next week’s board meeting,” Leon said.
The board’s next regular meeting is Oct. 5. However, the district’s calendar shows an audit committee meeting is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 9.
The district has hired the company in the past. In 2013, the external audit applauded the district during a board meeting for growing its fund balance.
