High schools: Schenectady, Mayfield, Fonda-Fultonville post girls’ volleyball wins

In a non-league girls’ volleyball match, Schenectady registered a 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 win Monday against Mohonasen.

Gelmajony Marrero Martinez contributed 11 kills and nine digs in the win, while Kanishjoary Marrero Martinez added 10 kills. Kaelyn Hurd had 25 assists for Schenectady, and Madison Petersen registered 11 digs.

In defeat, Mohonasen’s Andrea Skoda had 10 digs and five kills.

Mayfield topped Hadley-Luzerne 25-14, 25-11, 25-16. Julia Fitzgerald had eight assists, while Morgan Ashline had four aces and four kills in the victory.

Fonda-Fultonville defeated Johnstown 25-16, 25-18, 25-22. Marilyn Whitcavitch had 10 kills and four blocks to lead the victory. Alivia Wilson led Johnstown with six kills and 15 digs.

Guilderland registered a 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22 win against Mekeel Christian Academy. Guilderland’s Lauren Hoyle led the way with nine kills and 14 digs. For Mekeel Christian Academy, Rose Seredensky had 11 kills and Chloe Ekstein contributed 19 assists.

Columbia won 25-6, 25-14, 25-23 against Niskayuna in Suburban Council action. For Columbia, Arrivva Silliman contributed 15 assists, Cara Lallier had 10 digs, and Allison Silliman and Rachel Perry each had seven kills. For Niskayuna, Laura Mason had 24 digs, Audrey Mason contributed 16 assists and 12 digs, and Ava Schewe had 12 kills.

In Wasaren League play, Waterford-Halfmoon topped Mechanicville 25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14. Skyler Kennedy had 10 kills and Kiley Pennick had 10 assists in the win, while Mechanicville’s Jenna Tesoriero contributed six assists.

Juliana Montanino had seven kills in Saratoga Catholic’s 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 win against Tamarac.

In a Colonial Council match, Lansingburgh defeated Schalmont 16-25, 25-14, 25-22, 24-26, 25-15. Mary Doyle led Lansingburgh with 25 assists,

Mackenzie O’Brien registered 12 kills and nine aces, and Julianna Laphan had eight kills. For Schalmont, Alexa Knapik had 25 assists, eight digs and five aces, Natalia Sawyer had 15 kills, Mikayla Townsend contributed 14 digs and Elena Lybrand added 13 digs.

MILESTONE REACHED

With a 5-0 non-league win against Watervliet, Maple Hill boys’ soccer coach Dan Gillespie secured the 700th victory of his coaching career.

Nick Bianco, Evan Gralitzer and Anthony Mucillo each scored two goals in Broadalbin-Perth’s 9-0 win against Amsterdam in a Foothills Council matchup. Luke Barnhart added a goal and two assists, while each of Landon Russom and Darrin Mosher contributed a goal and an assist. Carter Iannotti had two assists.

Michael Carpenter scored three goals in Fonda-Fultonville’s 5-0 Western Athletic Conference win against Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Will Hernigle registered two assists, while Allen Booth had a goal and an assist.

Middleburgh beat Schoharie 4-2. Nate Wood had two goals and an assist for Middleburgh, and Quin Barton had a goal and an assist for Schoharie.

HENRY STARS

Aaron Henry led Cobleskill-Richmondville to a 26-6 Section II Class C football win against Mechanicville.

Henry turned 13 rushing attempts into 121 yards and two touchdowns, plus was 6 of 13 passing for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Cobleskill-Richmondville scored the game’s first 26 points.

MASTRELLA LIFTS BURNT HILLS

Burnt Hills topped Shaker 3-0 in Suburban Council field hockey. Lily Mastrella had two goals in the win.

Guilderland won 4-0 against Bethlehem. Chelsea King had a goal and an assist.

Allie Shamberger and Aubrey Ide each had two goals in Saratoga Springs’ 6-0 win against Columbia. Ide also had two assists for the Blue Streaks, which received a goal and two assists from Lily Gutch.

MOHONASEN wins

Courtney Bush scored the game-winning goal in Mohonasen’s 1-0 Colonial Council girls’ soccer victory against Ichabod Crane.

Isabella Estill had two goals in Stillwater’s 3-0 Wasaren League win against Hoosic Valley.

Galway scored a 2-0 win against Northville in Western Athletic Conference girls’ soccer. Anna Miesenberg and Kendra Peterson each scored a goal, while Hannah French made 14 saves in the shutout.

Schoharie won 12-0 against Middleburgh, as Haley Drinon registered four goals and two assist, and Katie Krohn scored four goals. Krohn, Section II’s all-time leader in goals scored, pushed her career goal-scoring total to 236, which moved her into the No. 2 spot on the state’s all-time scoring list; Krohn passed Molly Petrucci, who scored 234 goals for City Honors from 2010-15, while Chloe DeLyser is No. 1 on the state’s scoring list with 336 goals scored from 2014-19 playing at Marion. Jacquelyn Sullivan contributed two goals and an assist for Schoharie.

In a 1-1 non-league tie, Mechanicville’s Nevaeh D’Aloia and Schuylerville’s Anika Buff each scored a goal.

GOLF POSTPONED

The Section II boys’ golf Class B and C/D championship tournaments were postponed “due to course conditions,” the section announced Monday.
The event was moved back a week and will now take place next Tuesday at Fairways of Halfmoon.
