High schools: Willis lifts Schalmont football on late TD

Sean Willis ran in a 1-yard touchdown with 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give Schalmont a dramatic 17-13 Class B Reinfurt Division football win over previously unbeaten Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk on Friday.

Willis, who ran the ball 44 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns, capped off a 12-play, 58-yard drive with his game-winning score Nathaniel Ray had given Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk the lead with 3:12 to play on a 31-yard touchdown run. Frank Broadhurst led Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk with 90 rushing yards.

Andrew Lyman scored on a pair of short touchdown runs, and Lansingburgh scored 20 unanswered points in a 20-6 win over Mohonasen. Arnez Neale scored Mohonasen’s lone touchdown.

In Class A, Niskayuna had its four-game win streak snapped as Averill Park rolled to a 21-point halftime lead en route to a 35-0 victory.

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac notched a 20-7 Class C win over Fonda-Fultonville behind the play of quarterback Jake Sparks, who threw for 106 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 136 yards and a score.

SHENENDEHOWA TOPS SARATOGA SPRINGS

Kendall Eggleston and Nicolette Morlock provided the goals for Shenendehowa in a 2-0 Suburban Council field hockey win over Saratoga Springs.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Guilderland 3-1, with Grace Todd, Maddy Connelie and Caroline Kogut tallying goals for the Spartans in the winning effort.

Brooklyn Drago scored a hat trick in Scotia-Glenville’s 10-0 Foothills Council girls’ soccer win over Glens Falls. Lucy Crounse added two goals and two assists in the win, while Rylee O’Connor and Sage Luke each provided a goal and three assists.

Molly Laudato’s goal gave Duanesburg a 1-0 win over Berne-Knox-Westerlo in the Western Athletic Conference.

Caitlyn Baker’s goal in the first overtime gave Canajoharie a 1-0 win over Galway, which held on into the extra session thanks to 18 saves from goalie Hannah French.

Fonda-Fultonville beat Mayfield 1-0 with the game’s only goal coming from Jill Sandel.

In a wild non-league game, Mekeel Christian Academy and Loudonville Christian played to a 7-7 draw, with Jo Galarneau scoring five goals for Mekeel Christian.

Manasseh Turenne had a goal and an assist for Saratoga Springs in a 3-2 Suburban Council boys’ soccer verdict against Colonie. Ryan Farr and Lucas Varghese also scored in the win.

Mayfield picked up a 2-0 non-league win over Doane Stauart with Michael Smigen and Brody Deal scoring in the game’s final 20 minutes to capture the win.

ANTOINE LEADS SCHALMONT

Schalmont outlasted Mohonasen 25-17, 16-25, 26-24, 26-27, 25-11 in a Colonial Council girls’ volleyball match. Karissa Antoine led Schalmont with 14 kills and four blocks, while Katie Ullman had 19 kills for Mohonasen.

In Suburban Council boys’ volleyball, Bethlehem notched a 26-24, 25-9, 25-13 win over Guilderland held nine kills from Jonah Negris and nine blocks from Nick Evangelista.
