The driver was not found, a police spokesman said.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. at Union and Yates streets.

The car crashed into the pole, snapping it and leaving the top of the pole hanging on the wires.

The single occupant then fled. The car was registered to a Rotterdam resident, who was not cooperative, the spokesman said.

Union Street was closed from Jay Street to Broadway while the pole was repaired. The crash also knocked out power in the area. Power has since been restored.
