COBLESKILL – A Cobleskill husband and wife were arrested Wednesday in connection with injuries to a 7-month-old child, state police said.
The husband, identified as Justin Van Alstyne, 24, of Cobleskill, was charged with second-degree assault, accused of causing arm and leg injuries to the boy in April 2020, state police said.
Both he and his wife, Desyree R. Van Alstyne, 19, of Cobleskill, were also charged with misdemeanor child endangerment, accused of “failing to take preventative measures to ensure the safety of their 7-month-old son,” state police said.
The investigation began April 14, 2020, after the child arrived at the Albany Medical Center emergency department with multiple arm and leg fractures, state police said.
The hospital alerted the state police, who then responded there, troopers said.
Investigators interviewed the Van Alstynes regarding the nature and cause of the injuries. Further investigation over the 18 months then led to the charges this week, state police said.
Justin Van Alstyne was arraigned and released to return to court later. Desyree Van Alstyne was released, also to return to court later.
