The man, who state police did not identify, was riding his ATV westbound on railroad tracks near Exit 26 of the Thruway when he noticed a train traveling eastbound on the tracks, state police spokeswoman Tara McCormick said.

The man then drove down an embankment near the train tracks to avoid the oncoming train, but he struck a rock wall at the bottom of the embankment and was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The man suffered a head laceration and was taken by Mohawk Ambulance to the hospital, officials said. The investigation is ongoing, McCormick said.
