High schools: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake wins girls’ Class A tennis crown

Rebecca Dudley, Meghan Poirier and Gianna Leggieri won their singles matches, and the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls’ tennis team swept the doubles in a 5-2 Section II Class A title-match win over Queensbury Thursday at Central Park.

Erica Muscato and Maddie Morrison prevailed on one singles match, and Ashley Bikowicz and Carli Ewing secured the other one in helping Burnt Hills complete a 12-4 overall season. Queensbury finished 15-4.

Bethlehem capped an 18-0 season by beating Saratoga Springs 7-2 in the Section II Class AA team final. Kirsten Phang, Zara Pattison, Purvayi Patil and Rayka Kogut won singles matches for Bethlehem, and the Eagles took all three singles matches. Saratoga went 15-2.

Schoharie defeated Chatham 5-1 for the Class C team title, with Alaina Sholtes, Misha Cater-Smith, Allison Gallagher and Camille Robinson-Parisi winning singles matches for the 8-7 Indians.

BURNT HILLS BOOSTS SC MARK TO 10-0
Carlie Rzeszotarski collected 17 kills and four aces, and the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls’ volleyball team extended its Suburban Council mark to 10-0 (20-3 overall) with a 25-7, 25-10, 25-7 win over Saratoga Springs. Callie Chevalier and Kiera Hartpence anchored the Spartans defense with 12 digs apiece.

Arricca Silliman had six kills and 19 assists for 9-1 (11-1 overall) Columbia in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 win at Guilderland.

Maggie Lyon sparked Ballston Spa’s front line with 17 kills, and Sarah Bozzo finished with 26 assists in Ballston Spa’s 17-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23 win over Niskayuna. Laura Mason had 33 digs and Audrey Mason had 24 assists for Niskayuna.

Peyton Strand had 13 kills, Brianna Hardwick had 22 assists, and Shaker took the final set to get past Schenectady 18-25, 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-23. Gelmajony Marrero piled up 19 kills and 22 assists for the Patriots, and Kaelyn Hurd came away with 33 assists.

Emma Paliwodzinski’s 30 assists and Kasia Barletta’s 21 digs were key factors in Shenendehowa’s 25-14, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Bethlehem.

Ichabod Crane beat Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 and, at 12-1, clinched the top seed for next week’s Colonial Council tournament. Emma Scheitinger and Maddie Kelley both had seven kills for the Riders.

Sophia Rogers and Sami Westfall delivered 10 kills apiece to power Broadalbin-Perth past Johnstown 25-12, 25-11, 25-15 in the Foothill Council. Haley Tomlinson served five aces to help the Patriots go to 10-1 in the league (11-1 overall).

Julia Jaworowski had 14 kills, and Kathryn Braun assisted on 20 points as part of Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons’ 25-13, 25-12, 25-16 Western Athletic Conference win over Duanesburg.

Samara Mattice had five aces among her 10 service points in Canajoharie/Fort Plain’s 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

Hallie Gasner’s 12 kills were a key part of Middleburgh’s 25-20, 24–14, 25-21 win over Schoharie.

Julia Fitzgerald totaled eight kills, 13 assists and five digs in leading Mayfield over OESJ 25-12, 25-9, 25-15.

BAKER LIFTS CANAJOHARIE SOCCER
Caitlyn Baker scored early on and also began a three-goal run in the second half as Canajoharie beat Fort Plain 5-0 in Western Athletic Conference girls’ soccer action.

Rylee O’Connor and Susie Sidlauskas both had two goals and an assist, and Lucy Crounse also scored two goals as Scotia-Glenville beat Johnstown 9-0 in the Foothills Council.

Queensbury clinched the Foothills title and recorded its eighth straight shutout with a 3-0 triumph over Schuylerville. Meredith Montgomery had two goals as Queensbury wrapped up its third consecutive undefeated league campaign.

Madison Daley and Nevaeh D’Alois both had a goal and an assist as Mechanicville forged a 5-2 Wasaren League win over Tamarac.

Garrett Farr and Ryan Farr both notched two goals to help the Saratoga Springs boys’ soccer team beat Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 6-0.

Olivia Geniti scored three times and assisted on goals by Annabelle and Marlee Mancini to lift Scotia-Glenville past Queensbury 5-4 in a Foothills Council field hockey game. Dani Hand hat a hat trick for Queensbury.

Shenendehowa got goals from Kendall Eggleston, Hannah Merritt and Molly Miller in a 3-1 Suburban Council win over Shaker. Merritt’s third-quarter goal broke a 1-1 tie.
