The Siena women’s basketball team was picked to finish ninth in the MAAC coaches preseason poll released Tuesday night.

That’s right where the Saints, who replaced Ali Jaques at coach during the offseason with Jim Jabir, finished last season in the conference standings. During a season that saw the Saints only play 13 games because of issues related to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Siena finished 4-9 overall and 3-8 during the MAAC’s regular season.

Quinnipiac took the top spot in the preseason poll, while Marist — last season’s regular-season and tournament champion — was picked to finish in fourth place. Manhattan was selected to finish in second place and Fairfield was third, and each of the poll’s top-four teams received at least one first-place vote.

Lou Lopez-Senechal of Fairfield was named the league’s preseason player of the year. Joining Lopez-Senechal on the preseason first team were Mikala Morris and Mackenzie DeWees of Quinnipiac, Manhattan’s Courtney Warley and Angel Parker of Niagara.

Siena’s only selection to a preseason team was Rayshel Brown, who was a third-team pick.
