High schools: Amsterdam tops Troy in Class A girls’ soccer

Sophomore forward Madisyn Meca delivered two goals and an assist as eighth-seeded Amsterdam defeated No. 9 Troy 4-1 Tuesday night in a first-round game in the Section II Class A girls’ soccer tournament.

Madison Cebula and Nicole Turney each added a goal for Amsterdam, which received six saves from Carolyn Sculco. Amsterdam advances to play top-seeded Queensbury.

Fonda-Fultonville won 1-0 against Glens Falls in the Section II Class B girls’ soccer tournament play-in round. Carly Atty scored the game’s lone goal.

FORT PLAIN WINS
Fort Plain defeated Mekeel Christian Academy 2-1 Tuesday in a Section II Class C boys’ soccer tournament play-in game. Pat LeMoine had a goal and an assist in the win. Gavin Richards also scored for Fort Plain, while Luke Kniese contributed Mekeel Christian Academy’s goal.

In a Section II Class B boys’ soccer tournament play-in game, Glens Falls topped Johnstown 8-1. Landan Phipps had three goals and two assists in the win, while Jack Motsiff had two goals and two assists. Johnstown received its goal from Trey Naselli.

In a double-overtime Class B game, Allen Booth scored the game-winning goal in Fonda-Fultonville’s 2-1 win against Watervliet. Booth’s game-winning goal was scored with 4:08 left in the second overtime.

MOHONASEN UPSETS ICHABOD CRANE
In a Colonial Council postseason matchup, fourth-seeded Mohonasen defeated top-seeded Ichabod Crane 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21. Katie Ullman had 13 kills, five blocks and three aces in the win, while Andrea Skoda had seven kills, Sara Duell added 16 digs, 10 kills and seven aces, and Alexis Haley contributed 29 assists, 12 digs and seven aces. Mohonasen will play Holy Names in Thursday’s league championship match.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake secured a 25-11, 25-7, 25-3 win against Averill Park. In the Suburban Council contest, Callie Chevalier led the Spartans with nine kills, three aces and five digs, while Danielle Debonis had 16 assists. Emily Prest led Averill Park with three kills and two aces.

Maren Louridas had 14 kills in Bethlehem’s 25-9, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22 win against Albany. Anna Walston added 10 kills and eight digs in the win, while Caroline Davis had nine kills and eight digs.
Saratoga Springs topped Niskayuna 10-25, 26-24, 31-29, 25-22. Brianna Cassia produced 24 assists and Lili Yefimenko had 18 digs in the win. For Niskayuna, Laura Mason contributed 32 digs, Ava Schewe had 18 kills and Anjana Kurian dished 26 assists.

Columbia defeated Shaker 25-18, 25-8, 25-14. Arricca Silliman had 14 assists and five digs in the win, while Miranda King had six kills, Rachel Parry produced nine aces, five kills and five digs, and Leah Phillips had five kills. In defeat, Peyton Strand had eight digs and five kills.

Guilderland won 25-14, 28-26, 25-16 against Troy. Lauren Hoyle had 11 digs in the win, Reagan Dennett had 12 assists and Summer Fedorov had 10 digs.

Ballston Spa defeated Schenectady 25-15, 25-10, 25-11. Sarah Bozzo had 19 assists in the win, while Maggie Lyon contributed nine kills, seven digs and four aces. For Schenectady, Gelmajony Marrero Martinez had eight kills, Kaelyn Hurd had nine assists and Madison Petersen had seven digs.

On its senior night, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons topped Canajoharie/Fort Plain 25-13, 25-19, 25-14 in Western Athletic Conference action. Seniors led ND-BG in the win, as Kathryn Braun contributed 17 assists and six aces; Victoria Jaworowski had 10 kills; Delaney Kuban produced six digs and four kills; Gabby Correra had four aces; and, Kateri Gullion added three aces. In defeat, Talia Viscusi had two kills.

Fonda-Fultonville defeated Mayfield 17-25, 25-21, 25-12, 23-25, 25-22. In the win, Amber Cole had 32 assists, Maddy Mott produced 12 digs and 10 kills, Keionna Christmas had 10 blocks and five kills, and Marilyn Whitcavitch contributed 24 kills, six blocks and five aces.

Mekeel Christian Academy won 25-12, 23-25, 26-24, 25-21 against Duanesburg. Amelia Armao had 11 kills and nine aces in the win, while Chloe Ekstein had 25 assists and five aces. For Duanesburg, Hanna Borski produced seven kills and six aces. Galway won 25-3, 25-5, 25-15 against OESJ. Grace O’Brien had 21 assists and Julia Reedy had 10 kills in the win, while OESJ’s Jade Dygert contributed 10 digs, and Brooke Trumble contributed four kills, four digs and four assists.

Gloversvile defeated Amsterdam 25-14, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17 in a Foothills Council match. For Gloversville, Allie Salvione had 26 assists, Zoie Tesi had 17 kills, Sydney Canty had nine kills, Marisa Dygon had seven aces and Alexis Rocklin had four digs.
