High Schools: Schalmont boys beat Voorheesville in first round of Section II Class B soccer tournament

Andrew Kusek scored three goals and added an assist Wednesday as 12th-seeded Schalmont defeated fifth-seeded Voorheesville 4-0 in the first round of the Section II Class B boys’ soccer tournament.

Kusek assisted on Paulie Brosious’ goal.

Goalie Christian Tortorici made eight saves to record his fourth shutout of the season.

In another Class B game, Andrew Kraszewski scored five goals to reach 100 for his career as Mechanicville defeated Fonda-Fultonville 12-0. Kraszewski also had two assists. Colin McNutt added two goals and three assists.

Sam Rogers had two goals and two assists as Broadalbin-Perth beat Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 6-0. Nick Bianco, Kody Rogers, Antonio Daniello and Landon Russon also scored for the Patriots (14-3).

Second-half goals by Sam Tyler, Balasai Witt and Liam Armstrong paced Schuylerville to a 3-1 victory over Hudson.

Colby Cummings’ goal lifted Guilderland past Ballston Spa 1-0 in first round of the Class AA tournament.

Andrew Hopper collected a goal and an assist to lead CBA to a 5-2 win over Columbia.

Gloversville and Amsterdam played to a 2-2 draw in the first round of the Class A boys’ soccer tournament, with Gloversville advancing 4-2 on penalty kicks. Gloversville rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the game’s final 12 minutes to force overtime. Justin Kemmet made 12 saves for Gloversville and stopped two more during the penalty shootout. Nick Covey and Brodie McNeil scored for Amsterdam.

Jake Afsar-Keshmiri had a goal and an assist to power Queensbury to a 3-0 victory over Troy. Jack Grant and Gavin Kelly also scored for the Spartans (10-5-2).

Harry Haworth had three goals and an assist, Finn Conway had two goals and an assists and Sa Kler Moo added two goals as Albany Academy defeated Mohonasen 8-1. Justin Andrioia scored for Mohonasen.

McMASTER LEADS SARATOGA
Maddy McMaster had three goals and two assists to lead Saratoga Springs past Schenectady 17-0 in the first round of the Section II Class AA girls’ soccer tournament. Analise Rodriguez also scored three times for the Blue Streaks, and Abby Bundy and Taylor Balzer added two goals and an assist each.

In Class C play-in round action, Sarah Pita scored with 17:26 left in the second half to help Corinth beat Duanesburg 1-0.
Ashleee Stevens’ goal lead Berne-Knox-Westerlo to a 1-0 triumph over Hoosic Valley.

HOOSICK FALLS FIELD HOCKEY WINS
Fourth-quarter goals by Lyrice Kriner and Emma McCart helped Hoosick Falls to a 3-1 victory over Corinth in the first round of the Section II Class C field hockey tournament.

Ben Pearce had 12 kills, and Liam Calhoun added 11 kills and two aces as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Bethlehem 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 in Suburban Council boys’ volleyball action. Aidan Calhoun had 26 assists, and Gavin Sweet contributed 26 digs for the Spartans.

Allison Motler had 25 service points, eight aces and five assists as Saratoga Central Catholic swept Hoosic Valley 25-13, 25-11, 25-12. Liz Best added eight service points and four aces.

Kiley Pennick collected 18 service points, six kills and five assists as Waterford-Halfmoon improved to 14-0 in the Wasren League and 15-0 overall with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 victory over Berlin/New Lebanon. Chelsea Plummer added nine service points and four kills.

Johnstown beat Gloversville 24-26, 25-19, 25-17, 29-27 in a Foothills Council girls’ volleyball match. Allie Salvione led Gloversville with 25 assists and 12 digs. Zoie Tesi added 19 kills, 18 digs and five blocks, and Jackie Rattray had 22 digs.

Galway defeated Guilderland in a non-league girls’ volleyball match 25-13, 25-14, 25-15. Galway moves to 11-0 overall. Julia Reedy led Galway (11-0) with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Anna Dabrowski had 10 blocks and six kills. Jayden DeVellis had 41 digs.

Anastasia Koumanis had 12 assists and eight aces in Schyulerville’s 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 win over Mechanicville. Jenna Tesoriero had 10 service points and seven assists for Mechanicville.
