The UAlbany women’s basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the America East Conference preseason poll, which was released Wednesday.

Stony Brook, last year’s conference tournament champion, led the 10-team field and earned six first-place votes. No. 2 Maine and No. 3 UMass Lowell also received at least one first-place vote.

Vermont was picked to finish fourth. After UAlbany, in order, were Binghamton, New Hampshire, NJIT, UMBC and Hartford.

No UAlbany player made the preseason all-conference team, which consisted of Binghamton’s Denai Bowman, Vermont’s Anna Olson, Stony Brook’s India Paga and Annie Warren, Maine’s Anne Simon and UMass Lowell’s Denise Solis.

UAlbany returns four starters from last season’s team that advanced to the conference semifinals. UAlbany opens its 2021-22 season with a non-conference game Nov. 10 against Hofstra.
