The crash happened just after 10 a.m. as the eastbound tractor-trailer lost control and crossed over the median, through a guide rail, and into the oncoming lanes. The tractor-trailer struck the car head-on near mile marker 149.4, according to police

The driver of the SUV was alone in the car and died at the scene. The two people in the tractor-trailer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

The tractor-trailer could be seen off the westbound shoulder — with cab jackknifed — following the crash; the SUV next to it.

The damaged guard rail was flattened in the median.

The investigation and cleanup of the crash shutdown all westbound lanes between Exits 24 and 25 until 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
