One dead from crash Friday night in Niskayuna

A Schenectady motorist died from the injuries she sustained during a head-on car collision Friday night in town.

The other driver in the crash on Troy-Schenectady Road has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter.

Mark Brodie, 62, also from Schenectady, faces additional charges of felony driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor driving while ability impaired by alcohol, according to the Niskayuna Police Department. He was remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.

Denise Guthinger, 67, of Schenectady died Saturday, a few hours after the collision, police said. They were called to the scene of the two-car crash on Troy-Schenectady Road near Shannon Boulevard at 7:07 p.m. Niskayuna Fire District #2 firefighters and Mohawk Ambulance personnel were already on the scene assisting the drivers.

Each driver was the sole occupant in their respective vehicles, the police press release said.

Both drivers were taken to Albany Medical Center for their injuries, which were not specified in the release. Police said Guthinger died from her injuries. Niskayuna Police Department, with assistance from the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department reconstructed the crash. Alcohol appeared to be a contributing factor, they said.
