Some downtown Schenectady residents and commuters will need to find alternate routes Monday and Tuesday.

Bob Talham Inc., of Troy, a contractor with National Grid, will be installing natural gas pipelines in the area north of State Street between Erie Boulevard and Jay Street over the next 48 hours, according to a release from the city.

Broadway will only be open to local traffic between Union Street and Liberty Street from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day, while Liberty Street between Erie and Jay will be closed for periods of times both days as well.

The city is urging people to give themselves extra time to reach their destination, according to the release. The work is expected to be complete by the end of Tuesday.
