Police: Schenectady man hit woman with object in domestic incident, broke her nose

SCHENECTADY – A city man was arrested Friday, accused of hitting a woman with an object during a domestic incident, breaking her nose, authorities said.

Jayson Hooks, 37, of State Street, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor criminal mischief, according to allegations filed in court.

Hooks is accused of hitting the woman in the head with what police described as a ceramic coffee mug at about 3 a.m. Oct. 30 in the area of Eastern Avenue and Walnut Street, according to the allegations.

The woman also suffered swelling and cuts to her face, according to the allegations.

He faces two different counts of assault, one focused on the alleged use of the object and the other on the seriousness of the woman’s injuries, according to the allegations.

The woman attempted to call 911 during the incident, according to the allegations, but Hooks is accused of hanging up her phone as she did so, leading to the criminal mischief charge.
