State Sen. Michelle Hinchey, D-46th District, announced Thursday via Twitter that she had tested positive for COVID-19.

Hinchey, who is vaccinated, said she called her local health department and is isolating.

“Because I am vaccinated, my symptoms are mild, easily confused for a cold or severe allergies,” she said in the tweet. “If you are experiencing any of these types of symptoms, getting a COVID test is the best thing you can do for your family, friends and neighbors.”

Hinchey did not provide further details in her tweet.

Hinchey is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s protocols, along with her local health department, said Biannca Coppola, the senator’s director of communications, Friday afternoon in an email.

“Our office has postponed all events requiring the Senator’s presence until a later date,” she said.
