Police: Niskayuna man killed in Monday morning head-on Colonie crash; Another person injured

COLONIE – A Niskayuna man was killed and another person injured in a Monday morning head-on crash on New Karner Road in Colonie, police said. 

William J. Connelly, 54, of Niskayuna died in the 9:42 a.m. crash on New Karner, south of Albany Street, police said.

Police identified the other person as Michael E. Scorzelli, 58, of Feura Bush. Scorzelli suffered injuries to his hand, police said.

The crash happened on New Karner Road, near the railroad tracks south of Albany Street between a 2009 Honda Accord sedan and a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, police said. The sedan was northbound on New Karner and the pickup southbound, police said.

Colonie officers, along with Colonie EMS, the Stanford Heights, Midway and Colonie Village fire departments responded and found Connelly unconscious and in need of extrication. Connelly was treated, but died at the scene, police said.

Scorzelli was treated at the scene and taken to Albany Medical Center, police said.
