Niskayuna approves 2022 budget

The Niskayuna town board approved its 2022  budget 4-0 Thursday evening during its monthly meeting.

Board member John Della Ratta was absent from the meeting.

The $17.1 million budget would keep the residential tax rate at $2.76 per $1,000 of assessed value. The tax rate for non-residential property, such as commercial properties in town, is proposed to increase 1.2% to $6.08 in 2022 from $6.01 in 2021.

The budget would also use $46,000 in reserve funds.

“It is balancing an increase to employee benefits and the tree replanting program,” said Supervisor Yasmine Syed.

The tree replanting program would receive a $5,000 increase.

Other changes included a 2% cost of living adjustment increase for non-represented employees, which totaled approximately $53,000. Another $17,000 increase is for employee benefits for social security and health insurance, which is covering the transition of a part time employee in the Justice Court to a full-time employee.

Syed said an additional approximately $20,000 was added to the supervisor’s budget so that if the next supervisor wishes to hire a full-time director of operations they can.
