ALBANY — UAlbany football wil be heading into 2022 without its top defensive player from the last two seasons, as defensive end Jared Verse announced Tuesday that he is entering into the NCAA’s transfer portal.
Verse, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end, announced his decision in a social-media post.
“I would like to thank the University at Albany coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this amazing family. Saying goodbye is never easy,” the post read. “But with long thoughts and discussions with my family I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility left.”
Within hours of announcing his entrance into the transfer portal, Verse also posted Tuesday that he had received offers from a pair of FBS programs, Kansas and Western Kentucky.
A native of Berwick, Pennsylvania, Verse was a first-team All-CAA selection this season after finishing the year with 9.5 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss and 52 total tackles while playing in all 11 games as the Great Danes went 2-9. He burst onto the scene last spring, earning CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and second-team all-conference recognition when he racked up four sacks and a CAA-high 10 tackles for loss in just four games.
