FireWolves edged in National Lacrosse League opener, 10-9


In their season opener, the Albany FireWolves dropped a 10-9 decision to the Toronto Rock in a National Lacrosse League contest at the FirstOntario Center in Hamilton, Ontario.

The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured 15 lead changes or ties.

The Rock got a pair of goals from Dan Dawson late in the fourth quarter to rally from a 9-8 deficit to earn the win.

Dawson finished with two goals and an assist for Toronto, while Tom Schreiber had four goals and an assist. Reid Reinholdt posted two goals and three assists for the Rock, Rob Hellyer had a goal and four assists, and Dan Craig added a goal and two assists. Brandon Slade and Latrell Harris each had two assists for Toronto.

Andrew Kew paced the Albany offense with four goals and two assists, while Reilly O’Connor had a goal and two assists. Anthony Malcom, Charlie Kitchen, Jacob Ruest and John LaFontaine also scored for the FireWolves.

Nick Rose made 34 saves for Toronto, while Doug Jamieson made 43 stops for Albany.

The FireWolves will be back in action Dec. 18 when they host the Rochester Knighthawks in their home opener.
