The UAlbany men’s lacrosse program announced Tuesday its 2022 schedule, which includes the Great Danes’ first-ever home game against rival Syracuse.

That meeting with the Orange will take place April 7 at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. The teams were supposed to play in Albany during the 2020 season, but that game was canceled due to restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. All-time, UAlbany and Syracuse have played 19 times, with the Orange winning 17 of those games.

UAlbany’s game against Syracuse is one of several against top programs. UAlbany will also play April 24 at Yale, which defeated the Great Danes in the 2018 national semifinals, and March 12 at 2021 national runner-up Maryland. In all, four 2022 opponents for UAlbany finished last season with a top-25 ranking.

Season after season, we have consistently played one of the top-tier schedules in the country, testing ourselves against the best our sport has to offer,” UAlbany head coach Scott Marr said in a statement issued through the school’s athletic department. “But in my 22 years at UAlbany, I cannot recall us playing a more challenging schedule than what we will this year.”

Also among the Great Danes’ schedule highlights is a return of the program’s rivalry game with Siena. The matchup between Capital Region programs takes place March 2 and serves as UAlbany’s home opener. The Great Danes’ season-opening game takes place Feb. 19 at Cornell.

UAlbany finished 8-5 last season and was the America East’s runner-up.
