SCHENECTADY — The Union College athletic department announced Thursday that the men’s hockey team’s two-game series against defending national champion UMass has been postponed due to health-and-safety protocols.

No make-up dates have been announced.

The games were supposed to take place Friday and Saturday at 4 p.m.

“In these challenging times, the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff members and entire community is our top priority,” Union athletic director Jim McLaughlin said in a press release.

The announcement comes a day after Dutchmen sophomore forward Liam Robertson confirmed he missed a weekend series at Maine two weeks ago because he had COVID-19.

Last week, Union announced that fans attending indoor sporting events must not only wear a mask, but bring proof of vaccination.

The Dutchmen’s next four games are on the road. They will be back home Jan. 21 against Brown.

The women’s basketball game Thursday against Middlebury is still scheduled to be played, according to Union spokesman Steve Sheridan.
