PHOTOGRAPHER:

Christian right fuels fraud, lies and unrest

Last December I was praying constantly to God to protect America from Trump’s erratic behavior.
In fact, on Jan. 6 he incited an insurrection. However, thanks to the brave Capitol police force, his coup d’état didn’t succeed.
How did things get so low in America? It did because of the inflammatory rhetoric of the Christian right, Trump’s lies and his buddies in Congress.
Father James Martin, editor of America magazine, answered it well when he tweeted: “Christian leaders who cast elections as ‘good versus evil,’ vilify candidates and say that voting for one candidate is a ‘mortal sin’; they encouraged people to think that violent actions are moral.”
Today, Trump hasn’t been held accountable for his crimes; he still doesn’t want to admit defeat and continues spreading the big lie of election fraud.
This is thanks to his puppets in Congress, who don’t have the moral courage and integrity to do their duty (as their colleagues did with President Richard Nixon) and didn’t force him to resign or face impeachment.
The GOP and the Christian right have emboldened Trump’s criminal behavior — they must be held accountable — those who have helped Trump must reflect on their sins, get back on track and follow the Constitution by doing their duty.
Religious leaders should only stick to Jesus’s central message of love and stay out of politics because so far, their meddling in politics has caused more harm than good.
In the meantime, I’ll continue praying for freedom, justice and peace in America.

Open government in New York is a fraud

Bravo! I have been dealing with the Freedom of Information process with the town of Guilderland for over 10 months.
The problem is that not one elected official will respond to any follow-up questions regarding the questionable documentation I have received. I would love to see the towns be required to respond to questions about perceived problems in writing, on a website, so responses become a matter of official records.
One email response that I received from the Committee on Open Government seems to have a reminder in the response that I should not use pronouns in my inquiries.
I left New York state 10 years ago when I could not get anyone to audit a $12 million fraud claim against the USDA federally funded food program.
My experience is that the concept of open government is truly a facade. New York state, or the town of Guilderland is not truly open.
Unless there is true open communication between government and the taxpayer, the government will continue hiding information that many in the community need to know before casting their ballots in November.

Drivers: Be alert for pedestrians and pets

Robert Frost wrote “walked many miles with a dog, did me a lot of good, hope it did the dog.”
For me, a number of times, it’s come close to getting me killed.
As l walk my dogs along the Charlton superhighway, l notice two types of drivers: those who pay attention to pedestrians and animals, and those who don’t.
To the former group, l am grateful; barring any oncoming cars, these folks move over and give room or at least slow down. They are appreciated. People, and animals in particular, can be unpredictable. I have been brushed back but not yet hit.
The second group, the ones that don’t move over, seem to consist of several types: folks who, like l was once, are unaware of the need to give room, trusting that boundaries will be maintained.
They are educable, like when approaching police, tow trucks or disabled/parked vehicles per recent law changes.
The next group of the second set is cell phone texters and yappers who, so far, have swerved at the last moment.
The last set seems to dare an innocent pet to cross that white line for their eternal judgment. These folks also wouldn’t cross the double yellow or slow down for any reason.
To the first set, thank you. For the others, thank you for considering changes.
My dogs look forward to the woods that are lovely, dark and deep. And I, too, have promises to keep.

ANTHONY J SANTO

If you want the real facts on vaccine effectiveness read two articles on the front page of today’s Gazette: “Hospital leaders’ message: Get your shots”, and “On vaccination, an east-west divide”:

This is the real news, the accurate information people need to make an objective decision on whether or not to be vaccinated.

Guy and I were called numbskulls by John Gaetani, the losing candidate for state comptroller, for criticizing yesterday’s letter to the editor by Mr. Shear which questioned the effectiveness of the covid vaccine and suggested there are many and dangerous side effects.

He claimed we don’t listen to the doctors on this issue and that being vaccinated makes you more likely to be infected by the covid variant. Both are lies. The epidemiologists and immunologists working at the CDC and NIH recommend vaccination strongly and as the best way to fight covid and return to normal.

Th doctors he lists are often associated closely with the Trump movement in America. Scott Atlas, for example, was a Trump adviser. Many of them are not the most accomplished in their fields and more deeply involved in politics than medicine.

If Gaetani really believes the vaccine is as dangerous as he says, why does FOX require its employees to be fully vaccinated? Why are Trump, O’Reilly and other leaders in the Trump movement fully vaccinated yet emphasizing your ‘freedom’ to refuse the vaccine though this is a public health emergency.

We need to ignore the fake news, the broadcasts and sites that are more interested in politics than the health of the nation. Ask yourself, after reading these two articles which news sources are really fake: The Gazette and other mainstream news sources or shows on FOX and various cranks podcasts? Do you trust bookkeepers over doctors for critical medical advice?

LOUIS RESTIFO

On page A3 in today’s edition of the DG there was an article, with an accompanying photo, about the Recently launched Webb telescope.

We’ve all heard the expression; “Ya don’t have to be a rocket scientist to”….Now look at the photo of the Engineering teams at the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Part of the text from the article: “They jumped to their feet, exchanging high-fives and cheered from behind their masks when the operation was finally complete 2 1/2 hours later, doing their best to remain socially distance because of the global surge in COVID-19 cases.”

In that room were rocket scientist, but you don’t have to be one to understand the importance of wearing a mask and get vaccinated.

ANTHONY J SANTO

Another interesting aspect of the article was the incredible power of the telescope. It will be able to peer back 13.7 billion years to the edge of the known universe, within 100 million years of the big bang that formed the universe.

Also, “The hexagonal coffee table-size segments must be adjusted in the weeks ahead so they can focus as one on stars, galaxies and alien worlds that might hold atmospheric signs of life.”

LOUIS RESTIFO

Fascinating! I’ve been following the news about the 10 billion dollar Webb telescope since watching a 60 Minutes segment regarding it a few weeks back.

The doors this project can unlock are mind bogglingly wonderful. So exciting!!…..Or you can change the channel, call it all hogwash and realize the universe was created 8 thousand years ago when some special God blew a fart.

William Marincic

Maybe they were just following orders. When I’m out in the show room I have to wear a mask, when I’m sitting behind the desk in my office I do not. Every employer has their own rules, you’re trying to make it look like rocket scientists are wearing a mask so you should too. I’m telling you that’s what they’re being told they have to do to have a job, prove me wrong.

ANTHONY J SANTO

Please stop saying prove me wrong. It has been done repeatedly and you simply refuse to accept the evidence. No, I am not combing back through comments to find evidence this is so. Anyone can look and see for themselves.

LOUIS RESTIFO

Next time you run into a rocket scientist ask them their views on mask wearing.
Or, ask any highly educated individual you may encounter in the near future.
Perhaps a little volunteer work at a local hospital, (covid ward?) then take your own personal survey of the various physicians’ views on mask wearing.

William Marincic

Do you mean like my doctor who does not require masks in his office.

LOUIS RESTIFO

I don’t believe you, unless you are not referring to a medical doctor. If it is a medical doctor and by some slim chance you’re not lying, his name should be divulged. Please, his name.

LOUIS RESTIFO

What’s this “doctor’s” name William, or were you just not telling truth in an attempt to try reinforcing your incorrect belief that masks are not helpful?

LOUIS RESTIFO

What’s the doctors name William, I love great referrals? I really want to get rid of the witch doctor I’ve been seeing lately. What’s your doctor’s name William? Name, name, name, name?

ANTHONY J SANTO

I don’t believe a medical dr, BM is seeing does not require masks in his office.

LOUIS RESTIFO

Tony, now no answer, or some BS excuse from WM regarding not giving his drs. name.

William Marincic

I don’t care what you believe he is one of the best GPS out there, he will spend an hour explaining something so a patient understands. He’s been my MD since he graduated medical school, I’m his longest patient. You need to know someone to get an appointment but even then you might not get in. And no he does not require masks in his office.

William Marincic

As for giving his name, not gonna happen. Why so you can harass him? Cause problems for him. That’s all you liberals are good at.

LOUIS RESTIFO

I still don’t believe what you say about his mask protocol, and I don’t believe he gives you an hour, that’s ridiculous. I was right about your BS answer. I’d also be willing to bet you’re not his “longest patient. You seem to be loosing your ability to tell the truth about anything. If that’s not the case you can easily prove me wrong by divulging the doctors name. I don’t harass people.

William Marincic

I will gladly take all three of those bets, let’s make it easy. $1000 to the charity of choice and I will meet you and take you to his office next Wednesday, you can ask about all three things right to him. Bring your checkbook.

LOUIS RESTIFO

“Those were not welcome days. We buried sons, brothers, mothers, fathers, fiancés. Clocks ticked, but time did not pass. The sun rose and the sun set, but the shadows remained. When once there was sound, now there was silence. What once was whole, now was shattered.”
KATE MARA – Annie Cantrell – Despair

Please wear your mask William, lessen the blow.

William Marincic

Still with the insults ChuckD. Do you have anything ever of substance besides an article every now and again that you copy and paste while the rest of the time you insult anyone that doesn’t agree with your flawed leftist mentality?

Welp, just my objective observation, but you’re a liar, a traitor and a hypocrite, and you seem to see those traits as badges of honor.
I consider those reprehensible and have concluded you have a singular view of the world. I have no respect for that.
Enough substance for you?

LOUIS RESTIFO

It would be just great if you stopped interpreting the continuing proof of your ignorance of much fact, that is constantly verified and concurred by intelligent individuals knowledgeable in their fields, as insults.

Yes, perhaps some sarcasm but certainly not insult, just facts.

William Marincic

You know what Chuck you are a liar, you are a traitor, you are a hypocrite you hate America, you want to fill this country full of illegal immigrants and turn it into a Third World country. Do you want to change our constitution so only leftist Democrats can win, you are a traitor to America.

FRED BARNEY

“Religious leaders should only stick to Jesus’s central message of love and stay out of politics…”

Ottavio Lo Piccolo

That is to say the issue of what is right and what is wrong is not a subject for religious evaluation

ANTHONY J SANTO

Mr. Lo Piccolo wrote a great letter pointing out the need for Trump to answer for the insurrection he provoked, and the role played by the Christian right in supporting him.

Secondly, he is absolutely right in saying religious organizations should stay out of politics, Religious freedom and separation of Church and State are fundamental principles of our democracy.

Organized religion had best beware: If they continue using their pulpits to advance their political points of view, they stand to lose their tax-exempt status, as well they should.

RAYMOND HARRIS

Evangelicals are also antivaxxers, joining with republicans to keep the pandemic going. They should also stay out of the health care industry if they don’t follow science and recognize a woman’s right to choose.

William Marincic

Are they, I’m vaxxed and boosted I know many others from my church that are vaxxed and boosted. I know that lots of people under 30 years old or not vaxxed and boosted at least the ones that I’ve spoken to. I know that lots of African-Americans are not vaxxed or boosted and I know a lot of Democrats are not vaxxed or boosted.

LOUIS RESTIFO

How sweet; A churchgoing Evangelical, he is. 👼😇👼

William Marincic
November 17th, 2021
I have Black blood I can’t be racist against Blacks. So now what?

Here we go again: “lots of African-Americans”, “lots of African-Americans”, “lots of African-Americans”, “lots of African-Americans”.

William Marincic

There you going with your racist garbage again LOU, I believe you are a closet racist. And this is all cover for you. And yes I do have Black blood, so what. Stop your racist hate.

Guy Varoma

Good thing there was no internet when they developed measles, mumps and rubella and Polio….People use the internet not for knowledge and factual information but to search for something that tries to back up their conspiracies theories. They found their messiah in Trump who is the King of liars and conspiracies

FRED BARNEY

Guy to claim that Trump lied about something you must know his intentions. Either that or you need help in choosing the correct word to covey your thoughts.

Fredo: Your reliance on that weak self created rule is laughable and also revealing of your inability to reason effectively. One can infer the Orange maggots loose connection to the truth via words and actions. Infer: deduce or conclude (information) from evidence and reasoning rather than from explicit statements.

FRED BARNEY

You may reasonable conclude may things from what you know about the world around you, but you can only infer intentions of a speaker. If the word infer bothers, you can substitute hypothesize intentions

Fredo: Your word salad of a response is to restate your original statement. I reiterate it shows a lack of reasoning skills. But points for digging in your heels.

William Marincic

Is that anything like the old Maggot that’s in the office today? The one that has destroyed everything he has touched, you know the dumpster fire. Now he’s a real maggot

ANTHONY J SANTO

What are you talking about? There is no content, facts, substantiation, only raw hate. What would Jesus think of that? What motivates you?

“But he said bad things! About Mr. Trump! So I should be able to. (sniff)”

LOUIS RESTIFO

We have time and patience, and welcome your arrival. 👹👺

William Marincic

Anthony you and the rest of these Democrats who continue to call former President Trump an Orange Maggot is that what you’re talking about? Seems to me that’s some real raw hate because he hasn’t been our president in almost a year now.

ANTHONY J SANTO

Trump earned the title and I never called him a maggot. My main names for Trump are liar, grifter, conman, phony, hypocrite, narcissistic self-obsessed megalomaniac, dangerous clown: Things he actually is.

ANTHONY J SANTO

Also, I make no claim to follow the ‘turn the other cheek’ advice that Jesus recommended, but you do.

RAYMOND HARRIS

Fred, too bad you haven’t followed along all the details by several of us regarding Trump’s lies and why he lied. He even made his intentions clear by orchestrating the Jan. 6 terrorist insurrection so he could stay in office. So, please retire your worn-out statement. This is a public service statement for my friends on the Blog.

REPORT: University Of Memphis Offers Professors $300,000 To ‘Advance The Tenets’ Of Critical Race Theory

The grant is part of the university’s “Eradicating Systemic Racism and Promoting Social Justice Initiative.” Other programs in the initiative include “Recruiting, Hiring, and Retaining Tenured and Tenure-Track African American Faculty and Other Faculty of Color,” “Training for Faculty, Staff, and Students-Cultural Competence,” and “Contracting with Minority Businesses.”

ANTHONY J SANTO

FB, I would still like an explanation as to why you consider Chauvin innocent of murder after kneeling on handcuffed George Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes, slowly suffocating him to death, while you question the right of Officer Byrd to shoot Ashley Babbit when she attempted to break into the halls of Congress while the mob behind her was screaming for the murder of Pelosi and Pence.

Chauvin is white. George Floyd was African-American

Officer Byrd is Black and Babbit was white.

Chauvin was found guilty by a jury of his peers.

Officer Byrd’s shooting of Babbit was investigated and found to be in the line of duty, as was quite obvious to anyone who watched film footage of the shooting.

What, exactly is wrong with the programs you list? In my view they are designed to give a hand-up to African-Americans who continue to suffer the long-term consequences of discrimination against them. They are programs designed to achieve a more equitable society, truly blind to color.

FRED BARNEY

Tony as I pointed out before George Floyd could breathe well enough to say I cannot breath. He could have chosen to say I surrender! Floyd was held on the ground while law enforcement was waiting for medical help for the drug addled Floyd. Thus, his death did not reflect the intention of the police!

” They are programs designed to achieve a more equitable society, truly blind to color.” And you contend that this can be done by holding the innocent account for the actions of the long dead!

ANTHONY J SANTO

Why do you continue to question the fact that Officer Byrd’s firing on and killing Babbitt was in the line of duty?

You repeat the same nonsense over and over again. I do not believe Mr. Floyd was “drug addled” and in any event, that is no reason to suffocate a handcuffed man. He was promising to comply as he was being choked to death. I ask you again, is ‘I surrender’ a magic phrase?

Indeed, if being addle-brained through drug use was cause for police to become executioners, many people stopped for DUI would be dead. They are frequently non-compliant but officers almost always refrain from executing them.

In my opinion your views on these two killings reflect the very real underlying racism in our society that you continue to deny exists.

LOUIS RESTIFO

Tony, I could give you an explanation as to what FB’s considerations are regarding the Floyd and Babbit killings, but I won’t because Mark would only delete it.

ANTHONY J SANTO

I must have been writing a response to FB (BM should reflect on it also) when you wrote this post. My post appears just above. Is this what you had in mind? I don’t think it is anything more than a comment on what FB has said. But, of course, deletion of comments and suspension of accounts are Mark’s perogatives.

LOUIS RESTIFO

Sometimes the lines on this forum can be confusing. Regardless, systemic racism is as bad a world wide epidemic as COVID-19

LOUIS RESTIFO

Clarification Tony: I knew you were questioning FB. I was just Implying that I could truly answer your question to him in my words, but my answer would get bounced. It was in proper sequence, just a misunderstanding. Who’s on first?

RAYMOND HARRIS

Just curious Fred, which white supremacy group do you belong to? You are obsessed daily with comments regarding Blacks and always in a disparaging way.

You responded by asking me to check the roster. Since I’m not a white supremacist or support their racism, can you say the same?

William Marincic

Yesterday I was attacked by the Democrats and leftists on this site saying I was mocking the theory of evolution. My question to those who support the theory of evolution. Did evolution just stop once man evolved from ape? Shouldn’t there be half man half ape out in the wild? Where are they? Shouldn’t man evolve into something else? I’ll wait for your answers.

LOUIS RESTIFO

William , your ignorance of science knows no boundaries.

You watch Fox, perhaps you should watch this:
Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? is an American quiz game show. It originally aired on Fox where it was hosted by Jeff Foxworthy. … On May 26, 2015, the program returned to Fox for a new, 4th season, with Foxworthy, again, returning as host.

FRED BARNEY

If you believe in a God that made everything then a few dinosaur bones were no trouble for management. As for evolution after the beginning evolution was one possible way to e4stblish order.

William Marincic

Lou your insults know no boundaries maybe you should take a class with Miss manners. Ronald Reagan was absolutely correct when he said it’s not that my Democratic friends are ignorant it’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so. . What I found about Democrats is that they think they know everything, they scour the halls of academia thinking there know more and are better than everyone else.

ANTHONY J SANTO

“Boohoohoo, the smart kids are picking on me!” Trying to find the truth, backing it up with evidence, and being able to alter your views based on new and conflicting data is not the ‘elitism’ Trumpers love to condemn; it is common sense.

I remember Ronald Reagan, BM, and he was no Einstein.

LOUIS RESTIFO

No William, I’m not insulting you, we are all ignorant of something. No one knows everything. Ignorance can be about lacking knowledge or awareness of a particular or a specific subject.

I stick by my statement that I believe you have ignorance of fact related to evolution, and yes I believe some 5th graders are more educated on evolution than you are. – If you interpret these facts to be insults that’s your problem. And your attempt to prod the DG into remove comments is obvious and certainly should not happen.

Ornamental

Well, humans continue to evolve just like every other species because we’re just another mammal, nothing special. It’s a slow process, millions of years.

Religion and science definitely can coexist. The views of several Catholic popes over the years validate that. Here’s a summary from the 1950s to today:
https://religionnews.com/2014/10/27/pope-francis-evolution-inconsistent-notion-creation/

I take my 91-year-old Dad to a traditional Catholic church in Schenectady every Sunday and haven’t noticed any argument from the pulpit on this. I do understand that other faiths take a different view. And I respect that, as long as religion does not impede or undermine scientific inquiry.

Oh and attacking each other’s personal beliefs is a crummy way to debate a point, just causes us to dig in and cherry pick facts.

Thank you for sharing your opinion and asking earnest questions (maybe?) in the comments here. I see you’re in the minority and it wasn’t always that way in the comments section of the Gazette. I liked your remark yesterday about extraterrestrials and God, and can kinda see a link between science and the amazing unknown (as some people think of God) if I squint.

Cheers.

LOUIS RESTIFO

Ornamental, I do agree with much of what you said, one thing to consider is that “other’s personal beliefs” that promote lies and contradict facts of science, when brought the surface, can cause death as well the loss if democracy.
Wear a mask get vaccinated and don’t listen to Marjorie Taylor Greene and, yes, I will always attack the beliefs of people like her.

Cheers

FRED BARNEY

Lou in the end science is a matter of personal beliefs. That is why dark matter and dark energy are acceptable fillers for the short comings of current cosmological theories.

ANTHONY J SANTO

No FB, science is a process, a way of thinking critically and always adjusting your beliefs to fit the evidence and not vice-versa.

It is an objective method of searching for truth and understanding and relies on no ‘divinely inspired’ book, whatever that means.

FRED BARNEY

You are talk about science as a verb I spoke of it as a none. The fact that you can spin a story without the existence of God does not proof the nonexistence of God. You might try to prove the nonexistence of the 7th dimension.

LOUIS RESTIFO

Such an intellect! Please don’t give me your usual “thank you” it wasn’t meant to be a compliment.

ANTHONY J SANTO

I’m not trying to prove anything about god; I’m just explaining why I don’t believe in a god external to the universe. And I don’t care if you believe in god or a seventh dimension; the burden of proof is on the one making the assertion, not the one questioning it. I see no evidence for a god as described and you have offered no convincing evidence.

And whether science is a or a noun or a verb (it is a noun), what is important about it is the methodology it uses to gather information and come to objective conclusions. A true scientist has no “ax to grind”.

Let’s be clear about something.
Your diplomacy toward Marincic is terribly naive. You’re addressing someone who’s an avowed supporter of a man who’s attempting to tear down (yes, tear down) the foundations of our country. Marincic has publicly stated his support for and anticipation of what happened on January 6th, 2021, and he continues to try to provide cover for what’s left of the corrupt, sick Republican party as they continue to try to dissect the 2020 elections believing there’s some way they can reinstate Trump as President.

Marincic and his cohorts have absolutely no interest in your diplomacy, nor any kind of adult debate. These people are mindless thugs.
As an aside, I’ve always striven to step outside my comfort zone and try to see others’ points of view; I don’t know when a human becomes a human and I understand how these poorly-named “Pro lifers” can be so driven, but before that comes a woman’s right to make their own choices about their body, and to choose to end a pregnancy is most definitely NOT murder.
I’m having trouble understanding the problem with a voter ID card. But for now, the loudest proponents are those who are quite willing, and driven to undermine the election process so I’m not touching that.

That said, people like Marincic who seem to believe they know what’s best for all of us and are quite willing to subvert the processes that protect our rights in the most ham-handed way, under the guise of “freedoms”, have no motivation to see another’s point of view and are traitors. They have no interest in kindness and compassion, nor diplomacy. These are different times. Their interest is clearly in the promotion and protection of the White Christian male. Any knowledge of the history of the Christian faith should also acknowledge that as intrinsic in what they perceive as “Christian”.

RAYMOND HARRIS

Bill – If a god made you in his image, as Ricky Ricardo would say, “he’s got some ‘splaining to do” because you cannot be for real.

Guy Varoma

William they should Cryofreeze you and unfreeze you 1 million years from now. You would see that evolution is fact…As I told you these changes occur over millions of years….You first need to stop believing that the earth was created 3000 years ago as people who interpret the bible are telling you. Those people had to scientific basis in the stories that are told in the Bible …Another thing you should do is believing the Bible was written by god …it wasn’t …it was written by man to try and explain their existence.

ANTHONY J SANTO

We share over 98.8% of our DNA with chimpanzees. They are far more like us than ‘creationists’ would like to believe. If you look into their eyes you can feel a common bond with them. They are not our ancestors, but they evolved from a common ancestor over millions of years.

Read my post yesterday about the industrial moth; with its short life span, we witnessed the evolution through natural selection of a new species of moth, which was less visible to predators because it matched the color of soot covered trees and buildings in industrial cities like Manchester, England. Modern scientists have located the mutation in the peppered moths DNA sequence responsible for the protective coloring.

The evolution of most modern species occurred over millions of years. Modern whales and dolphins still have pelvic and hip bones, useless to them now, but passed on from their land dwelling ancestors from 40 million years in the past.

I don’t post this to change your mind. I know that is not possible. You dismiss whatever evidence doesn’t suit your world view and cling to what comforts you. I post it because others read this and the truth needs to be out there. Everyone can make up their own mind.

ANTHONY J SANTO

This is proof that debating you is impossible. You have been told over and over again that evolution is a process that is very slow and you do not, by definition, see it in your own species during your lifetime. You see it in the fossil evidence, the DNA similarities between humans and other species, especially primates, and the reality of vestigial organs. Monkeys, once again, are not our ancestors, but we share ancestors with them from the distant past.

We’ve seen evolution in short-lived species such as the industrial moth, evidence you simply disregard.

Also covid, through mutations takes different forms, and its virulence and level of contagion can change in each form. That is why we should do our best to vaccinate as many people as possible to limit the chances of infection and new variants.

Bill Wemple

The Chimps I’ve seen are always trying to learn. It appears you and your like-minded kind have stopped. There’s your real-time case for evolution.

ANTHONY J SANTO

See? You still don’t get it BM. We didn’t “come from chimps”. This is my last attempt to explain:

From Smithsonian’s Human Origins: “What is the common ancestor between humans and chimpanzees? Gibbons, great apes and humans emerged and diversified during the Miocene Epoch, approximately 23 million to 5 million years ago. The last common ancestor humans had with chimpanzees lived about 6 million to 7 million years ago.” Scientists are still searching for the link between chimpanzees and humans. There are several possibilities, one being shelanthropus tchadensis. Look him up, the reconstructions and discussions of this species are riveting for someone interested in human origins.

No one is trying to change your religious views. But you should keep in mind there exist hundreds of religions each with its own infallible story of creation and man’s origins. My opinion is religion and science should be strictly separated and religion should be affirmed and practiced among its devotees. Attempts to present religious opinion as infallible explanations of creation to the general public only results in frustration.

William Marincic

That’s what the theory, got it theory of evolution says but there’s a problem with it and all the years that we’ve been searching this theory of evolution we have never found the so-called missing link. Let me go one step further with all of you talking about the new telescope which is going to change a lot that we know about science. The question is this and I asked it yesterday do you think maybe the extra terrestrials out there is God? I don’t believe it but maybe you do. The government is releasing reports including reports by our military fighter pilots that they have tracked UFOs on hundreds of occasions . Maybe this alien race that is checking out earth is the father of humans which makes more sense than evolution. You know after traveling 3.4 billion light years you get kind of lonely, you know, you land on earth you see a monkey it looks kind of like a human, bingo bango we got a baby. Like I said it makes more sense to me than a fish crawling out of the ocean and over 3 billion years becoming a human.

Is this what you’d consider an educated opinion? Or don’t you care to be so?

ANTHONY J SANTO

You hypothesize, again, with no supportive evidence other than disputed UFO sightings. I’m not saying there are no aliens observing or even visiting earth but there is a lack of conclusive evidence. If they are our ancestors did Jesus die for them too? They sound superior to us, how do you square the biblical assertion that man was created in god’s image and was his penultimate creation with superior god-like aliens.

They can’t be god. You say there is only one god.

I think you miss the point of “Ancient Aliens”. The argument is that ancient civilizations THOUGHT aliens were gods because of their advanced technology. The show is quite entertaining but recent episodes have gone a bit off the rails.

ANTHONY J SANTO

Actually, I carefully re-read your nearly indecipherable post. My original response to you was based on other comments you have made regarding ancient aliens, their nature, and their interactions with humans.

This post makes absolutely no sense. It sounds like something a 4th grader wrote: “you land on earth you see a monkey it looks kind of like a human, bingo bango we got a baby.” Why would aliens from another solar system be sexually attracted to humans or monkeys. What point are you trying to make?

We have not found the ‘missing link’ but fossil remains connecting hominids to simians abound. Science doesn’t claim to have answers until it actual has supportive evidence. Also you might want to review all the evidence for evolution that has been presented. I won’t repeat it.

How old is the Earth?
How long have humans walked it?
Simple questions that bible’s version is hard to believe.

ANTHONY J SANTO

From Wikipedia regarding another doctor from Gaetani’s list: “Vladimir Zelenko is known for promoting a three drug combination of hydroxychloroquine, zinc sulfate and azithromycin as part of an EXPERIMENTAL (my emphasis) outpatient treatment for covid-19 that he promoted as the Zelenko protocol.”

Money is another of the factors motivating some doctors to push quack cures such as the one above and others, for example, the livestock anti-parasite drug, invermectin.

Anthony, respectfully, let’s not fall into the same trap we see our unfortunate rightwing friends, perpetuating myth. I’ve never been one to be comfortable in an echo chamber, it blinds you to what’s on the horizon.

Ivermactin is not just a live-stock medication, and its inventors did win a Nobel for its invention, as a treatment for parasites even in humans. Most definitely not for viruses though and there’s no evidence in . I hate to see people who are well-intended wield half-truths as weaponry.

But anyhow, the BBC, that British bastion of fake-newsery, had this to say about the myth of ivermectin:

“Campaigners for the drug point to a number of scientific studies and often claim this evidence is being ignored or covered up. But a review by a group of independent scientists has cast serious doubt on that body of research.
The BBC can reveal that more than a third of 26 major trials of the drug for use on Covid have serious errors or signs of potential fraud. None of the rest show convincing evidence of ivermectin’s effectiveness.
Dr Kyle Sheldrick, one of the group investigating the studies, said they had not found “a single clinical trial” claiming to show that ivermectin prevented Covid deaths that did not contain “either obvious signs of fabrication or errors so critical they invalidate the study”.

ChuckD, what’s important is that invermectin is of no preventative or therapeutic value in relation to the covid virus. In that sense what I wrote is accurate, not half accurate. I did not mean to downplay it as a useful medical tool in the treatment of parasitic infections. I did not know it was used on humans with parasites. Thanks for that information.

Lack of concrete evidence, I guess the military in the Pentagon releasing the UFO tapes is not concrete evidence. I’m sorry I didn’t come from CNN or Rachel mad cow.

Ottavio Lo Piccolo, absolutely loved your letter, as I have previous ones.

“Last December I was praying constantly to God to protect America from Trump’s erratic behavior.” – It truly does my heart good to see a religious person, unlike so many others, realize and acknowledge “the inflammatory rhetoric of the Christian right, Trump’s lies and his buddies in Congress.”
Again I thank you!

fredsmith, My sincerest apologizes for using there instead of their. What was I thinking?

Also from From Ottavio Lo Piccolo LTE today “This is thanks to his puppets in Congress, who don’t have the moral courage and integrity to do their duty (as their colleagues did with President Richard Nixon) and didn’t force him to resign or face impeachment”.
Pretty sure we have all seen SENATOR Ted (Cancun) Cruise groveling with Tucker by now, which answers the moral and integrity statement in Ottavios post. A sitting Senator goes on TV with a entertainment host to debase himself, worse than what he has done kissing FG -ss if that’s possible after FG comments we all know so well. Most of us anyway. some will call it fake news I,m sure.

We have kept in touch with a man our youngest daughter dated back the late 80’s who was going for a advance degree in Laser technology.
He went on to establish his own company, moved on and ended up working for the last 8 or 9 years on the Webb telescope for NASA on the reflection mirrors that are part of it. End of my knowledge about what he does. He was always very secretive about his work when we would would speak with him a few times a year and still do. Amazing stuff. Wonder what they will find out there?

William it doesn’t concern me that you don’t believe in evolution. It doesn’t hurt anyone you believing that. It’s your and others destructive Trump politics that is a concern. Believe what you like as long as it isn’t destructive to anyone but yourself

LOUIS RESTIFO

No, because you, from my prospective, already appear to be, figuratively speaking, unconscious from the months of blows you’ve been taking on this forum, and therefore anything I say would be incomprehensible to you.

“The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of government. But the Constitution which at any time exists, till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole people, is sacredly obligatory upon all. The very idea of the power and the right of the people to establish government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey the established government.”
“All obstructions to the execution of the laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency.”
“The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.”

Maybe this will help the pro-Trump faction to understand that the pressure put on Pence to do more than count and certify the electoral votes of the states was unconstitutional; that trying to change the outcome of the election through various interventions by Trump and his allies was not only illegal but unconstitutional.

William Marincic

I’m glad you said that about our constitution then we are in agreement. HR1 is a bad deal, it allows Democrats to cheat and control our elections keeping them in power forever. Thank God Joe Manson and Krysten Sinema said they will not support a filibuster change. If that were to happen that would be a go around of the constitution and I don’t even believe it would pass muster I doubt it would pass muster with the supreme court.

You are in trouble because most of America doesn’t like you.
How easy to forget those glorious dreams of Mike Pence rejecting some electors and hopefully tying up a peaceful transfer of power, against our constitution.
Fortunately for us, Mike turned out to be a sorta stand-up guy.
And btw, filibusters are not a part of our Constitution.

ANTHONY J SANTO

You should read Article 1, Section 4, Clause 1 before you tell us exactly which provisions of HR1 are unconstitutional and exactly how provisions favor Democrats, i.e. in what way, specifically, do these provisions represent democratic cheating and control over our elections?

Guy Varoma

Trump Republicans’ could care less about the constitution…The only pull it out and wave it over their heads when it’s convenient to their politics. They do the same thing with Bible passages. No true believer in Jesus would ever make excuses for Trump they way they do

Guy Varoma

William please tell us how HR1is a bad deal? Please cite the previsions in the bill that you say would be a go around the constitution.

I doubt I will get and answer. Your claim of being a liberal once is at best laughable

ANTHONY J SANTO

Don’t forget Trump said that if more people vote, Republicans don’t stand a chance of winning. But it would be interesting to see how the so-called conservatives justify being against a bill that would increase voter participation.

We know what they will say, but I like it when they are forced to post what are really views that favor one-party rule and dictatorship for all to read.

I just finished “Don’t Look Up” an original netflix movie. It is a satirical look at the crises facing America today and the personalities behind them. If any of you are interested watch it; I’d love to hear opinions on the messages being delivered.

What a complete joke!

The Washington Post:

“Trumps Cable Cabinet”
“Fox news host heavily influenced the previous White House, texts show.”

Stephanie Grisham, former press secretary to President Donald Trump, remembers the challenges that came from so many Fox News hosts having the direct number to reach Trump in the White House residence.
“There were times the president would come down the next morning and say, ‘Well, Sean thinks we should do this,’ or, ‘Judge Jeanine thinks we should do this,’” said Grisham, referring to Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro, both of whom host prime-time Fox News shows.

Grisham — who resigned from the White House amid the Jan. 6 attacks and has since written a book critical of Trump — said West Wing staffers would simply roll their eyes in frustration as they scrambled to respond to the influence of the network’s hosts, who weighed in on everything from personnel to messaging strategy….

A former senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share candid details of private discussions, said Trump would also sometimes dial Hannity and Lou Dobbs — whose Fox Business show was canceled in February — into Oval Office staff meetings.
“A lot of it was PR — what he should be saying and how he should be saying it; he should be going harder against wearing masks or whatever,” Grisham said. “And they all have different opinions, too.”…

Michael Pillsbury, an informal Trump adviser, said he realized how powerful Fox News was in Trump’s orbit when the former president began embracing Sidney Powell — an attorney promoting Trump’s false claims of widespread voter fraud — and other election fabulists after seeing them on Dobbs’s show. Pillsbury added that while it seemed obvious that many of the claims were patently false, Trump was inclined to believe them, in part because he was watching them on TV and had affection for Dobbs in particular.
“It taught me the power of the young producers at Fox, and Fox Business especially,” Pillsbury said. “These young producers who are in their mid-20s. They come out of the conservative movement, they‘ve never been in the government. They are presented with these reckless, fantastical accounts. And they believe them and put them on for ratings.”…

ANTHONY J SANTO

We all knew about his ties to FOX’s phony ‘conservative’ hosts, but it is good to hear it from his former press secretary

ANTHONY J SANTO

I just looked up Roseanne Boyland; the story of her death can only add to my disgust and contempt for Trump enablers. Why haven’t news outlets brought as much attention to her death as Babbitt’s?

It is interesting that courts in Weimar Germany were very easy on Adolf Hitler and other perpetrators of the Beerhall putsch. Is the same thing happening in America today? The putsch was also a failed attempt to end a democracy and install a dictator. We should be very frightened by the fact that Hitler, eleven years later, gained his goal of absolute control over Germany through the Enabling Act.

Ruth Ben-Ghiat, author of Strongman: From Mussolini to the Present, was interviewed the other night. Her book sounds like a must-read. She clearly dissects the rise of the tyrant, their personality and they conditions they leverage.
