High schools: Brink, Edwards lead B-K-W boys’ basketball to victory over Schoharie


Zach Brink scored 20 points and Mark Edwards contributed 15 to lead Berne-Knox-Westerlo past Schoharie 71-59 in a Western Athletic Conference boys’ basketball game Monday night.

Brink nailed four of Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s 11 3-point baskets. Dane Coates had 13 points for the Bulldogs and Jake Detlefson had 12. Quin Barton went 14-for-16 from the line and topped Schoharie with 25 points, while Griffin Lansing had 12.

Mechanicville got 16 points from Tyler Eiseman in a 77-35 Wasaren League win over Waterford-Halfmoon. Eiseman scored 10 points in the first half when Mechaniville raced to a 35-17 lead. Joseph DeVito added 12 points for Mechanicville and James Doty had 10.

Royal Brown collected 37 points, including 14 of Cohoes’ 15 second-quarter points, in the Tigers’ 65-56 non-league win over Hudson.


Stasia Epler sank seven 3-point baskets and finished with 28 points and six assists, and Sammi Crandall netted a career-high 17 points as part of Cambridge’s 69-43 Wasaren League girls’ basketball win over Saratoga Catholic. Ashley Upson and Allison Motler scored 15 points apiece for the Saints.

South Glens Falls pulled away from Broadalbin-Perth in the middle quarters and rolled to a 68-38 girls’ Foothills Council win. The Bulldogs boosted their league mark to 8-1. Molly Russom and Camille Calderone both scored seven points for the Patriots.

Kendra Ballard scored 14 points and Shea Canavan put in 11 as Queensbury defeated Schuylerville 50-23.. Brigid Duffy had nine points for Queensbury, with eight coming in a 19-2 second-quarter run that made it 30-7.


Schalmont rode David Squires’ 233-667 and Richard Pitsas’ 239-666 to a 27-5 Colonial Council boys’ bowling victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Sean Howlan delivered a 237-644 and Jack Moyer had a 237-636 for the Sabres. David Kosisto had a 252-604 for Ravena.

Cohoes knocked down 3,469 pins to Mohonasen’s 3,402, and came away with a 20-12 win. Elijah Gillick led Cohoes with a 228-631, Jackson Felt closed with a 223-620 and Andrew Gillick turned in a 237-602. Gino Palleschi topped Mohonasen with a 233-646 and Ryan Monty added a 225-605.

Jack Popow closed his 613 set with a 224 single, and lifted Voorheesville to a 26-6 win over La Salle.

Niskayuna knocked down 3,636 pins led by Jared Wachenheim’s 677 triple and Austin Haight’s 676 three-game set in a 31.5-.5 Suburban Council win over Schenectady. Julian Hansen added a 657 for Niskayuna.

Anthony Paradiso rolled a 245-633 to lead Fort Plain past Duanesburg 4-0 in a Western Athletic Conference match. Ian Zuppardi backed Paradiso with a 188-532. Vic Silva had a 170-491 for the Eagles.

Johnstown took the second and third games to earn a 3-1 Foothills Council win over South Glens Falls. Mick Winton sparked Johnstown with a 235-623 and Patrick Clemence followed with a 215-594. Cassie Ogburn topped the Bulldogs with a 186-541.

Amsterdam knocked down over 1,000 pins in each game in a 4-0 win over Hudson Falls. Patrick Hyam had a 224-610 for the Rams, Kai Brennan had a 225-591 and Matt Sawitzki had a 222-568. Derek Call was best for Hudson Falls with a 214-590 and Joe Baldwin was next with a 205-576.

Scotia-Glenville beat Glens Falls 3-1 after Josh Allen and Savannah both rolled a 517 triple to lead a balanced effort. Jordan Adams and Logan Heins rolled a 514 and 513, respectively, for the Tartans, and Allen had the high single with a 233. Joselyn Smith had 223-618 and Michael Blockburger had a 199-549 for Glens Falls.

Broadalbin-Perth swept Schuylerville 4-0. Joe Simonds had a 222-572 for the Patriots, Jennah Graham had a 199-572 and Derek Goebel had a 222-570. Micah Grant had a 201-542 for Schuylerville.


The Schenectady girls soared to a 30-2 Suburban Council bowling win over Ballston Spa, with Kiera Beehm spinning a 242-598 for the 9-0 Patriots. Kennedy Barker had a 208-576 for the Scotties.

The Columbia girls got a 212-568 from Lily Brown and a 214-528 from Abby Hart in a 29-3 win over Saratoga Springs. Isabel Byrnes had a 200-518 for the Blue Streaks.

Courtney Peckowitz recorded a 225-630, and Colonie notched a 31-1 win over Averill Park. Emma Hotaling had a168-489 for Averill Park.

Marissa Phillips led a trio of 500-plus rollers for Schalmont with a 254-594 as the Sabres posted a 22-10 Colonial Council win over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Brooke Howlan had a 212-548 and Kaitlyn Rose had a 214-532 for Schalmont. Khloe Kramer paced Ravena with a 187-520.

Mohonasen defeated Cohoes 25-7 behind Madyson Jones’ 226-601, Kianna Macopinlac’s 202-561 and Gia Fowler’s 210-527. Lillie Garneau had a 172-520 for the Tigers.
